Making a joke out of your own insecurities is much more effective than trying to hide them, ask any comedian! It's also a very useful technique for saying what you're really thinking...
It's such a shame how insecurities can get the best of us and get in the way of the best of feelings. Far too often, the struggle against them only makes matters worse.
Patience, not panic is what is needed. Trust is the key to breaking free of that which handcuffs us. In time, it will be easier and easier, so long as we let it.
On Mothering Sunday, the biggest insecurity of all. The confusion and terror that is motherhood.
What if I am actually a terribly bad mother but no-one wants to say? What if my beautiful, beloved son grows up unhappy or scarred because of something I did, something I didn't know or something I didn't do.
Holding a life in your hands is hard. Harder that anything I have ever done. And every day, every night, I battle with fear and confusion.
For Theme Of The Week..."Insecurities"
This weeks WoW was either Disheartened or Encouraged. I chose to take a picture describing the word disheartened. In this picture I am trying to show how a lot of girls look at their selfs in the mirror and don’t feel good about themselves and feel really insecure. Girls all over the world think they are not good and pretty enough for anything and just wish they were someone else, or just no one. In this photograph I got Kerstin to lean on to the mirror, I got her head and hand in it too. The back of her head looks bigger than she does in the mirror which expresses the emotion and how insecure she might be. Because feeling insecure is the worst feeling and makes you feel down and small, like the does in this picture. I had to stand behind her and then slightly move my body into a really awkward and uncomfortable position to not get me nor my camera in this picture. We but a bright but ugly light on in this bathroom, which was the setting, to honestly make this picture look more depressing, and then I added the black and white affect just so you can see how sad people can feel about themselves. I would say her hand is the main thing which is in focus and her face in the mirror a little less. This is a good thing because her face which is blurry and could fade away that again shows the insecurity. The subject in this photograph is Kerstin. This is a very expressive photo because her face almost says it all. This is a very disheartening topic and I hate how girls, also guys, think about themselves in the worst ways possible.
To exlpain these series a little bit...
First, this is a collaboration with my daughter. She actually came up with the idea to photograph a destroyed Barbie, and she did it with her own two hands.
Her explanation is this:
"A stupid girl who led her life like those girls in hip-hop videos and ruined it. Now all her insecurities are showing."

Malawi, Muona, Nsanje District, 24 March 2020
In March 2019, rural farmers in Muona have seen their crops washed away by Cyclone Idai. WFP responded at that time with immediate support.
However, as food stocks depleted and as the next harvest is only expected in March 2020, WFP in Malawi has distributed monthly cash transfers to the most vulnerable so they can buy food and boost the local economy.
In the Photo: WFP is distributing Cash to food insecure people in Muona, Nsanje District (Southern Malawi) so they can buy food in the local markets.
As prevention measures for COVID-19, the beneficiaries are called by small group to facilitate distancing, received sensitization messages on the virus through the megaphones, are asked to wash hands with soap before and after getting their entitlements. In addition, staff and volunteers in charge of the distributions are using protecting masks and gloves.

Due to conflict and insecurity, Khaung Tse, 77, had to flee her village for the second time in one year. She sought safety in a displacement site hosting some 200 displaced people in Waingmaw Township, northeastern Myanmar.
“The (security) situation is getting worse. I had to flee for the second time two weeks ago because of shelling happening nearby my village”, she says. ; Due to conflict and insecurity in 2021, hundreds of individuals fled their villages in Waingmaw Township.
With the support of his community, a village and religious leader secured a land/site where IDPs could settle. While IDPs were able to construct their own shelters, UNHCR provided shelter roofing materials and core relief items to families in need.

It is not enough to call for good will. We are in desperate need of good thinking.
- Insecurity of Freedom
by Abraham Joshua Heschel
He who sets out to employ the realities of life as means for satisfying his own desires will soon forfeit his freedom and be degraded to a mere tool. Acquiring things, he becomes enslaved to them; in subduing others, he loses his own soul.

A moment of insight is a fortune, transporting us beyond the confines of measured time. Spiritual life begins to decay when we fail to sense the grandeur of what is eternal in time.

To furthur my self-image project, Inspired by Gillian Wearing's "Signs that say what you want them to say and not what other people want them to say".
The photographs statements contradict with what you would initially think of the person by glancing at the image.
For example, here Helen looks as though she is very confident but actually is one of the most insecure people I know.

So... it's International Women's Day.
I used to love this vintage ad that I found in France... And now it just seems frightening to think that sex sells.

"The warmth of wood takes on many shapes and forms. Make a photograph of something made of wood today." A quick shot today. Long day of meetings today followed by an even longer day of meetings tomorrow. But I do absolutely love my dresser, which was given to me by my grandparents who owned an antique shop for decades. I can't remember what kind of wood it is (mom? Are you reading this?) but it's wonderful.

Why'd you have to wait? Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late, you found me, you found me.
This is an image of Teahgan and Alex having a blast in Kensington Market. Everyone has at least one insecurity, most people have more. But they shouldn't stop anyone from feeling happy, you need to be able to celebrate your flaws because they are what set you apart from the crowd. So I included this image as a reminder of the fact that everyone deserves happiness despite their body image .
