This one was new to me, looked a little like a crane fly, but the head is different. Identified by the Seek IOS app. Those are some long legs...
205_365 Grasshopper. I think if this little guy would have been wearing a top hat, he would have tipped it to me. He was definitely waving at me. Made me smile. It even looks like he's smiling back at me doesn't it.
wasp attracted to the water in a bird bath during the recent heatwave.
I sat outside early one morning and became aware of this little wasp taking water from the dish. I sat for quite a while watching him go in and out of the waters edge.
On the underwing...pretty scary stuff. I see the top wing staring at you, and the bottom one saying "Boo!".

I found this nice little insect on my desk when I arrived at work today. He wasn't in good nick, so I put him outside where he might get food.
At least, I think it is a male, but I might be wrong.
Edit: I've had this identified as Netelia cristata by a man from the Natural History Museum.
