Dear Robber uncle : Lucky to get this one...that gave 30 sec. for taking position and shooting. Extension tubes loaded so could not move back for the full body coverage. I was kneeling down, my tripod was high, took both the hands around the tripod and took support like a third hand :-)

... wonder what all shapes they come in. :)

Kärrblomflugor (Helophilus) är ett släkte i familjen blomflugor.

 

MĂ¥nga blomflugor i detta släkte är stora och iögonfallande, upp till 17 millimeter lĂ¥nga. De har en svart grundfärg med artspecifika gula parfläckar pĂ¥ bakkroppen. BehĂ¥ringen är kort. MĂ¥nga, till exempel alla i Sverige förekommande arter, har tydliga gula eller grĂ¥aktiga strimmor pĂ¥ ryggskölden. Längd 9 till 17 millimeter.

The larvae turn into the mature Cicadas and escape through the top of the shells.

The short lifespan of the adult mayflies (usually one day or less) leave the surface of Lake Hatchineha blanketed with hundreds of thousands of the insects. Each female mayfly will lay 400 to 2,000 eggs until she becomes fish food.

This potter wasp took some time tearing bits of petal from the top of an unopened potentilla flower in it's search for caterpillars. Shot + 1 minute from first shot
