Here is a pretty little female wandering percher, resting awhile. Only for a second though, they are wary and fly off when approaching too close.

Taken at Sizbergh Castle, near Kendal, UK.

A male blue dasher dragonfly hanging out in the back yard. I tried to get a more in-focus capture of his wings but the wind was tossing him around. Fascinating creatures.

Rather common species of butterfly in Hong Kong (except during winter).

The butterfly closely resembles the monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) of the Americas, and in fact both species are found within the same genus.

Similar to its American cousin, the Common Tiger sequesters toxins from plants it eats as a caterpillar, making it generally unpalatable for most predators.

Species: Common Tiger / Danaus genutia / 虎斑蝶

Happy FlyDay Friday!

(HFDF)

NB: not captive.

A lovely Osmylops species lacewing was resting on a window. With camera settings and no flash, I was able to highlight its ephemeral, enchanting beauty against the dark background.

I learned that Osmylops represent a possibly more primitive kind of broad-winged nymphid that produce single-stalked eggs which yield flattened, disc-like, arboreal larvae.

This is a ventral view. 15 mm body length.
