Insects on leaf

I pulled some bark off a dead limb and came across these intricate designs.

Occasionally we see butterflies perch on our ashe juniper trees - not the prettiest setting. But this one sat there for a good minute, giving me a good opportunity to explore the possibilities...

Thought it was a monarch.

I think this is Andrena flavipes, but not sure. Seems to like the fennel flowers.
