I found this little guy perched on some grass along a slow moving stream. I was lucky enough to see him in action as he swooped out to catch his prey and return briefly before flying off.
This assassin bug decided to take a break on my thigh! You would have thought I’d get a better shot. But all I could think was to get him off me. lol
Ferocious beast with warts and spines making it less likely to be eaten. They moult four times and then pupate before emerging as an adult ladybird.
Seen on the forest road, near the garden :)
European oil beetle (Meloe proscarabaeus), from the family Meloidae. It occurs in Europe, North Africa and Palearctic Asia. It is 11 to 35 mm long, with males being smaller than females. It lives in meadows, field margins and other warm sites in all but the far north of the continent. Adult insects are found from April to June. They are phytophagous and feed on juicy, green parts of plants. The main defensive strategy of larvae and adult insects is the production of a secretion containing cantharidin - a highly toxic monoterpene for many invertebrate and vertebrate insectivores.

Owad spotkany na leśnej drodze :)
Oleica krówka (Meloe proscarabaeus) – gatunek chrząszcza z rodziny oleicowatych. Występuje w Europie, Afryce Północnej i palearktycznej Azji.
Spotted this ladybird resting on an aquilegia leaf in my garden. Ready to take flight with its wings beginning to open I had to act fast. A few images and it had flown.
Lift up your candle dress
Unweave your nylon spine
In velvet and in onions
You will soon be mine
I am your humble servant
Madam as you see
Tonight I am determined
You will lie along with me
You are an insect mother
With a black shiny head
That parts your cloak to open
Human you upon the bed
You are an insect mother
I your jammy son
And now we've found each other
There is nowhere else to run
Lift up your candle dress
Unweave your nylon spine
In velvet and in onions
You will soon be mine
