resin bee, Megachila sp. Possibly erythropyga.

Location: N 40° 30.90' W 121° 09.80' (Lassen National Forest at Silver Lake, California)

Flying Insect Approximately 1.5 - 2.0 inches long.

Habitat: Pine and Fir trees, lakes nearby, elevation: 6500 ft

Pictured with prey (if anyone has a general idea what its prey is, please let me know). Insect was fast for its size. My guess is both prey and predator are a type of wasp. (the prey perhaps family Sphecidae) Found around 9am in late August 2009.

A night flying Moth that can be seen flying from May - August.

The funny thing is that I never witnessed any insect in or around "hotels" like this. Insects seem to distrust such human initiatives...

I think these are quite pretty, very colourful and detailed when looked at close up

Well, of course, it's a BIG hairy fly, but the markings on it's back had me doing a double take! Hee hee, I'm getting a lego man (do you love his fuzzy hair do!!?) - what about you?

If there are any Dipterists out there who can identify this large fly I'd be interested - I've never thought a fly attractive until now!!

There were thousands of bees busy in this field of lavender. Woodmansterne, Surrey.

Unknown insect, Tambopata forest, Amazon, Peru. Approx. 10cm in length. Any help with and ID would be great!!

Again this one was on the night walk too. I can't wait to get back there and actually trek through the jungle, the things you would see!! ahhh I so wan't to be back there!!! :D

Some kind of Juvenile of an Insect visible after the first rains with a velvet kind of appearence.

Well, I've uploaded this one because I've seen a while ago a framed picture hanging on a wall that looked pretty much like this one (but without the insect).

a very small triangular insect sitting on a leaf.

Insect and flower. I shot this series with Olympus TOUGH TG-5 by using (normal) macro feature. In this case I could not use extended focus because insect was moving way too fast and it was quite challange to get some photos even with normal macro. I shot over 200 photos to get these few. However with compact macro (with small sensor size) this is somewhat easier than with full frame sensor DSLR and macro lens. Hausjärvi, Finland. 28.8.2017
