Protestors demonstrate outside the Chilcot Inquiry as Tony Blair is cross-examined for a second time. London, UK 21.01.2011
All photos © Pete Riches 2011, and must not be used without the express permission of the copyright owner.
This is part a large set which I shot at the protest yesterday outside the Iraq War Inquiry headed by Sir John Chilcot, where ex-prime minister Tony Blair was recalled to re-examine his original evidence in the light of new revelations which conflict with what Blair stated at his first interrogation in 2010.
Though not as large in numbers this time, the protestors were enthusiastic and high-spirited, and several photo-friendly stunts took place along side impassioned speeches to the crowd by Andrew Murray from stopwar.org.uk, Jeremy Corbyn MP who is a leading light in the cross-parliamentary anti-war group, veteran peace campaigner and vice-president of the Campaign For Nuclear Disarmament Bruce Kent, and others including Peter Brierley whose son Shaun (Sean?) was killed in Iraq fighting Blair's illegal war.

The inquiries about Antelope Canyon last week led me to go back to my photos and finally sort them!! (Thanks Folks) I post these to encourage those of you who might have the opportunity to go to this amazing place, to put it on your bucket list! :)
Not all are perfect in focus but that is because it was my first time through with a DSLR camera! With the exception of the signature these are all SOOC and with one exception, uncropped. Enjoy!
On Wednesday 21 January the Health and Social Care Committee met with service users and service providers from across Wales as part of their inquiry into alcohol and substance misuse.
As part of the inquiry, the Committee wanted to know about the effect that alcohol and substance misuse has on the people of Wales, how well these issues re currently being tackles, and whether the right local services are in place across Wales to help people and make sure that they know about the possible harms.
Participants gave their views through a reference group which will help the Committee make sure that they can take into account how alcohol and substance misuse affects real people in Wales on a daily basis.
The Committee will now consider the outcomes of the discussion, alongside other evidence given in formal oral evidence sessions and written submissions. They will use this information to write a report about the issue which will include recommendations to the Welsh Government.

A recent inquiry into the use of my 3D model of the Kalakala (for a display showcasing fragments of the vessel that were salvaged in the demolition), led to the discovery of several glaring inaccuracies that needed to be addressed.
Through the exhaustive process of researching every photograph possible, as well as studying the vessel's design drawings currently available, I've completely overhauled the Kalakala. It is now far more realistic.
It is still a works-in-progress, too, with about 85-95% of the vessel now complete - including skeletal framing and opening doors. More details still need to be added.

In the wake of the Grenfell tragedy, public inquiries are back in the spotlight. One of the most important measures of success for the Grenfell Inquiry – and for the other seven inquiries that are currently live – is how effective they are at making changes and preventing repeat disasters.
But at times inquiries have struggled to secure lasting change. This event examined why that is, and launched a new report from the IfG looking at what can be done about it.
Panel:
Jason Beer QC, Head of 5 Essex Court Chambers and a specialist in public inquiries who is acting in the Anthony Grainger Inquiry, the Undercover Policing Inquiry and the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse.
Joshua Rozenberg QC, one of the UK's best-known legal commentators and host of Radio 4's Law in Action.
Emma Norris, Programme Director at the Institute for Government, and author of the Institute's report on public inquiries.
The event was chaired by Bronwen Maddox, Director at the Institute for Government.

The event was introduced by the Chair, David Melding AM and was followed by a presentation by Daniel Greenberg, Parliamentary Counsel on what constitutes quality legislation. In group discussions, attendees and Assembly Members explored questions and issues surrounding drafting techniques, policy development and explanation and Assembly scrutiny, and allowed invited representatives to share their views on what could be done to improve how laws are made in the Fourth Assembly.
The Committee will now consider the outcomes of the discussions, alongside other evidence given in formal evidence sessions and in written format. They will use this information to write a report about the issue which will include recommendations to the Welsh Government.
