So I've been gone for a while. Just haven't had the time, energy or motivation to take any pictures. I've been stressing out about moving out at the end of the month. I can't find anything that I can afford. . . . sigh* I don't want to go back to Vegas, but if I can't find somewhere, I don't see another choice. I miss my daughter.
I feel like I just can't do it on my own. I don't make enough money. I'm trying so hard, but I don't have anything to show for it. No one sees that I'm trying. They all think I'm just screwing around care-free. If they could only see how it really is. . . how I really feel. . . It all feels hopeless. I'm never going to make anything of my life. I guess they have the joy of telling me they were right.
I hate feeling like this and feeling like I'm not myself. I just want to feel proud of something. Do something for myself and my daughter and be able to tell THEM that I was strong enough. But it just doesn't feel like I'm ever going to get that chance.
I feel so lost.

I have always believed that we all have two sides to us, whether it be good or bad one side always fights to be the dominant side and that is what I have tried to do in this picture…albeit since I have taken this picture I have had a few other ideas and I will be expanding on this…
In the box, after placing the model I stuck my small LED light inside the box above her hand and set the colour to orange for the first shot and blue for the second. I also asked the model to wear something that would fit each shot too, as I thought that was important to try and sell the shot. Also to light up her face I used a small torch.
In post, I took in photoshop and cloned out the lights inside the box, I added the flames. For the blue one I had to invert the flames and change the hue slightly. I then had to add a further glow around the flame and around the model to and finally added a few little particles around the flames to make it look like bits of wood where flying out. In lightrooms I reduced the blacks and increased the sharpness and exposure a little bit, and the bought both images back into photoshop.
Originally on my first draft of this picture I had a lot of negative space and I was not sure what to do with it, I tried to add a 'Vs' in the middle but it did not work, eventually I bought the image in and cropped it as tight as I can but still feel like it is not right….

A curator and friend of mine is having an exhibit on the 20th of October at the Silo Point on the Baltimore Harbor dedicated to Baltimore's own Edgar Allan Poe entitled "NEVERMORE". Originally I had no plans to partake seeing as how I don't have any of my work printed out or on hand.
Antoinette was already set to make a piece herself but she wanted to see me display some of my work, and with the right words of encouragement and a barrage of "you know what you should do..." influenced me to finally have a piece printed out and put on display at this particular exhibit.
I decided to take a look at the poem "The Raven" again and upon a random re-watching of the movie "Black Swan" with Natalie Portman I began to wonder if the character in Poe's story was succumbing to some form of madness like Portman's charcter. A madness brought on by his guilt for whatever may have happened to his lost Lenore. A guilt that was manifested in the form of a Raven that wasn't actually there.
Of course that is just one mans interpretation which i'm sure others have made before me.
The print is now in the hands of the curator along with Antoinette's piece and this will be able to view and on sale on the 20th. Thoroughly looking forward to being apart of my first exhibit.
Although I will admit this experience has given me a renewed hunger for trying to launch my own exhibit and getting more of my work printed out and put on display at other locations. Felt a great sense of pride having one of my creations in my hand rather than viewed through a laptop or phone screen. So yeah, hopefully within this whole 52 week project you'll see an update about something like that happening.

This was from an idea i had last night after i saw how cold it was, which came out really well, but when i looked back at the shots my face was blurred. So today i decreased the shutter time and hoped for the best. Im pleasantly surprised at the results but im definitely going to give this sort of thing another go in the future as it looks soo cool. I think i love using the flash lights at night! Also i was going to convert it to a red hue but it looked too processed then. I did edit a lot of the background out though, the washing on the clothes line was caught in shot! lol
