The deck of the Old Faithful Inn at Yellowstone is a fine place to have a coffee in the morning. In the distance you can see the geyser for which the hotel is named.

This is the beautiful hotel we stayed in while we were in Maine. Luckily, we were able to get a room in the original building - the wing was added much later. Our room was just to the left of the big balcony on the front.
The rounded part of the inn is "The Reading Room," the fantastic restaurant at the inn. Every meal was eaten in front of the windows looking out at Frenchman Bay - very beautiful, very romantic.
By the way, I was never able to get a picture when it wasn't low tide; the timing just never worked out. Either we were sleeping or in the park climbing on big rocks...

In Pipestone Minnesota. Built of locally quarried quartzite. Rumor has it the Inn is haunted, although we had no luck meeting the ghost. (Or ghosts).

“SAN FRANCISCO’S MOTEL,” AKA the International Inn, opened in 1956.
It was the first motel to be located next to the San Francisco International Airport. Address: 326 S. Airport Boulevard, South San Francisco, Calif.
The motel architect was Gerald M. McCue of Berkeley. The architect of the restaurant was Mario Gaidano of San Francisco. Landscape architects were Osmundson & Staley. Yep, this was a high profile project. Seiously, just google search these names. A million dollar investment.
At the International Inn, lodgers could “sleep away from city noise and downtown traffic in soundproofed poolside lanai rooms or off intimate patio courtyards planted with tropical lushness.”
Amenities included: heated swimming pool, coffee shop, cocktail lounge, children’s playground, free 21” TV, hi-fi music, thermostatically controlled heat (funny, they don’t mentioning cooling!), and complimentary shuttle WAGON to and from the airport.
If this place isn’t screaming for a boutique makeover, I don’t know what is.
Today is door and window day. This is one I thought I posted almost a year ago but I hadn't. So here's a door at the historic Mission Inn in Riverside, California.
This is the area on the south side of Weymouth's Old Harbour. Many of these buildings date from the early 1800s after part of the original wider harbour had been infilled and land reclaimed. Keen competition subsequently developed between the local inns to see who could attract the most visitors. The Old Rooms Inn is a most attractive Georgian building.
Behind the inn is Brewers Quay, where the site had been used for brewing since at least 1252. There was good access to spring water from Chapelhay, while barley fields were located at Radipole. By the 18th century, there were three separate breweries on the site; each being under the ownership of the Flew family, William Devenish and the Davis Brewery. In the early 19th century, the Flew family sold their brewery to Devenish, and in 1960, Groves also sold theirs to Devenish. Devenish continued to produce beer from Brewers Quay until 1985.

Over the last 9 months, with some crazy life stuff going on, ive had very little chance to add to flickr. The main thing taking my build time though, was this behemoth. It was originally designed by Corvus Auriac MOCs for a client as a digital commission, before it came to me for re-engineering and a set of buildable instructions designed for it. This was such an amazing and grand project, starting at 12,000approx pieces, and ending with a grand total of 18,500approx once the interiors, modularisation and landscaping was done. I designed removable frames for the left and right edges, so its able to continue on, should the grand new owner decide it needs further landscape/town. it came to a total of 1697 pages for the instruction booklet. Quite a hefty and ultra enjoyable project and super pumped to have been brought on board for it! All the parts were sourced in one order by Aussie Brickster, on Bricklink.. it has been such a great and international team effort!
Just in case you have a few too many, and end up falling into the sea!? Spyglass Inn, Ventnor, Isle of Wight.
For today's Steam Sunday here's a wide panoramic take on this scene that I lke from my second visit to New England's own Steam Mecca this past holiday season. It's a bit of a tradition to meet my Dad and step mom at the historic Griswold Inn for lunch and hot buttered rums and since we hadn't done that yet this year another visit to the lower Connecticut River valley was in order. As a nice bonus the weather was cold and clear with a light dusting of snow, perfect conditions for another try at shooting some steam after being skunked by engine problems a month prior.
For five weeks before Christmas the Valley Railroad (dba Essex Steam Train and Riverboat) runs an astonishing amount of holiday trains branded as the North Pole Express. Most are steam powered and this requires all three of their steam locomotives to be under steam at once. Excepting the Strasburg Railroad I don't believe there is anywhere else in the United States where three standard gauge rod connected locomotives are regularly under steam at the same time. But here, every weekend, it is a normal occurrence as the railroad runs 13 sold out departures between 2 and 8 PM every Sat and Sun (only 9 on Tue-Fri) using four consists one of which is led by one of the road's center cab GEs.
Here's Valley Railroad 2-8-2 'Mikado' New Haven 3025 leading the 2:30 PM train to the North Pole just a few minutes out of the station putting on a grand show thru the open field near MP 4.5 on the old New Haven Valley Line north of the bridge over the Falls River.
3025 is China Railways SY class built new in 1989 by the Tangshan Locomotive and Rolling Stock Works for Pennsylvania's Knox & Kane Railroad where it spent its life until that railroad's demise following the collapse of that lines signature attraction, the Kinzua Viaduct. It was purchased by the VRR in 2008 and was rebuilt as a functional replica of a New Haven J-1 'Mikado' locomotive like the type that once plied this line in local service and re-numbered 3025, one number above the last of the original class on the NYNH&H.

The Carpenters Arms Public House in Walesby, Nottinghamshire - 26Sep21.
This info from whatpub.com
Well situated on the main road on the crossroads in the village of Walesby. Two rotating guest beers, often an Everards, are on the bar. An open plan comfortable pub with three different areas plus a separate conservatory restaurant for food. A carvery is served on Wednesdays & Sundays. Outside is a good sized car park and seating to enjoy good weather.
The hotel is among the earliest examples of the type of rustic park lodges common in state and national parks. It was designed by the New York City firm of Tooker & Marsh in a style strongly influenced by the Adirondack Great Camps.
At various times during the 1930s and 40s, the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team, the New York Giants football team and the New York Knickerbockers basketball team made the inn and adjacent athletic facilities their training headquarters. Also during this period, entertainment headliners included Harry James and Tommy Dorsey, and some believe Kate Smith wrote her 1931 theme song "When the Moon Comes Over the Mountain" while at the inn.
