A friend of mine is a fan of the Inmates and told me about this idea. As soon as he explained it to me, I was enthousiastic about the project.

Stirling Old Town Jail, Stirling, Scotland

===========================================

The inmates lift inside the 6th Gallery of La Model Prison, in Barcelona. This area was reserved for inmates who entered the penitentiary system for the first time.

La Model entered service in 1904 and was closed in 2017, after decades of public demands of closure due to the deplorable condition of the inmates and the bad image for the surroundings. As the name suggests, it was intented to be a modelic prison, but although it was a modern design in early XX Century, soon the conditions deteriorated, and the first mutiny was just in 1906. Designed for 1000 inmates, in 1940 it reached a peak of 13.000 inmates, mostly political prisoners of the fascist Franco regime. Hundres left this place in their way to their execution. The last political victim was Salvador Puig Antich, executed in La Model in 1974. In fact La Model is a very important place to understand the history of the political represion in Catalonia, specially by the fascist regime between 1939 and 1978 (and beyond). Also it reflected the criminal and social problems of Barcelona in the XX Century.

Now the former prison is open to the public, but soon will be partly demolished (the surrounding wall and secondary buildings) to made parks, and the main building redeveloped for civic activities and also a history museum. So the time to take pictures is now or never.

Auschwitz was the Nazis' largest concentration and extermination camp. It was founded on Himmler's orders on the 27th of April 1940, close to the small Polish town of Oświęcim. The first inmates - mostly Polish political prisoners - were brought there in June 1940 and were used for slave labour. By March 1941, more than 10 000 prisoners were registered here. The Auschwitz camp was renowned for its harshness, with the most infamous being Block 11 (known as the bunker), where prisoners received the cruellest punishments. In front of it stood the „black wall“, the site of frequent executions. The inscription „Arbeit macht frei!“ above the main gate of the original camp at Auschwitz was merely a cynical mockery.

A symbol of the ruthless abuse of the prisoners were the medical experiments carried out on the prisoners by Nazi doctors such as the infamous Josef Mengele. These „doctors“ experimented with the sterilisation of Jewish women, for example, and also performed experiments on children, especially twins.

According to various estimates, between 1.2 and 1.6 million people lost their lives in Auschwitz. Auschwitz became the symbol of the Nazis' „final solution to the Jewish question“, a symbol of Nazi inhumanity and genocide.

Located on the western end of Jim Thorpe, you’ll find one of the most popular historic sites in the Pocono Mountains: the Old Jail Museum.

The Old Jail Museum, known during its operating years as the Carbon County Jail, housed inmates from 1870 until 1995. Soon after it closed, the jail was opened for public tours and has been open to visitors ever since.

The Carbon County Jail is a beautiful castle-like structure that was designed by Edward Haviland, the son of John Haviland who designed the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia. It features 27 cells, a warden’s house, a basement dungeon, and more within the structure. (Another photo from a cell below)

Not much to say on this one...Just, "Hello, me...and...Hello, other me."

Reclusa II (Viladrau - Gerona) Panorámica 6 fotos.

Inmate II (Viladrau - Girona - Catalonia) Panoramic 6 photos.

Antoni Gallart

Photo history:

Looking for streams to be able to photograph and I found this inmate and took several photos.

I wanted to perform panoramic water silks, but the problem is that if a single of the six photographs that make up the photo, it was moved because of the strength of the current over the tripod, you lose the entire panorama.

I hope you like it. Antoni Gallart

This mannequin caught my attention. She was inside a women's cell on 2nd floor as part of the tour exhibit at the Old Jail Museum in Jim Thorpe, PA. With her lifeless eyes staring into blank space, I could imagine the life of the inmates in this prison.

Feel free to tell me in the comments or in PM what uniform and restraints you wanna see in the next video.

A different edit of the same shot previously posted.

I think this edit gives a better impression of what it would have been like for the inmates back when the prison was operating.

The bombing and the passage of time was in charge of leaving in these conditions what was the dining room of inmates.

Three images from the house on the Moine, two showing the inmates/graffiti on the inside. For some reason every time I visit my mind wanders to the Rolling Stones........

Inside of the "Koepelgevangenis" (Dome or Panopticon Prison") in Arnhem, the Netherlands.

The panopticon is a type of prison building originally designed by the English philosopher Jeremy Bentham in 1785. The panopticon was intended to be a prison that allowed the guard to observe any of the inmates without them knowing if and when they were being watched. The design features a central platform surrounded by a ring of cells - thus enabling a clear view of every prisoner.

Worldwide are about 25 panopticon-inspired prisons built, in the Netherlands 3.

The panopticon (Koepelgevangenis) in Arnhem is a cylinder, 55 meter (180 feet) in diameter, composed of 4 layers of 50 cells (200 at the most), topped by a dome that is 46 meter (150 feet) at its highest point. Built in 1880-1886 for solitary confinement, with an observation tower in the centre. Recently-renovated in 1995.

The Netherlands actually has 3 almost identical panopticons in Haarlem (built between 1895-1901), Breda (built between 1886-1895) and Arnhem (built between 1880-1886).

Before you go make you anxious. I come here regularly for my work.

This photo was made around lunch time. Related to the privacy of prisoners and guards, they are obviously not photographed. The prisoners have lunch in their cell, and guards were out of the picture.

Stolen picture: This photo is regularly stolen. Several organizations and individuals use this photo without my permission.
