This pattern of injury occurs when the caterpillar feeds on an unfurled, rolled-up leaf. When the leaf unrolls, opens and expands, the uniform patterns of adjacent feeding holes appears.
it occurs to me, looking at this photo, that the swelling's gone back up a bit today -- possibly because I wrenched it on Saturday night while putting the Beaner to sleep? I'm not sure, but that episode brought tears to my eyes, it hurt so bad.
Today it is less sore than yesterday (or any previous day, for that matter), and I am trying to walk around normally. It hurts most when I forget that it's injured and try to put on or take off a shoe (there's usually foot-wiggling involved in that maneuver) or wrap my foot around the bottom of my office chair (ouch!).
Last night I dreamed that I showed up at the Vancouver tournament and tried to explain to everyone that I might not be able to skate at all -- I'd have to wait until I taped up my ankle, put on my skates, and got on the ice -- but for some reason all my gear was not in one place. It was like my hockey bag had exploded all over the room, and I was on a scavenger hunt for tape, pucks, socks, purse, camera, skates, etc.
Anyway, the knowledge that the tournament is only about 10 days away is why I'm walking around. I feel like limping is making the injury worse in some ways, by shortening some muscles and pulling on others. I plan to avoid flicking or turning my ankle as much as possible, but "when walking straight, use a normal gait" is my motto.
Incidentally, in addition to gaining about 4-5 lbs. since the injury, my right thigh has gotten bigger than my left -- probably from all the limping and hopping. Makes for strange-fitting pants, I can tell you.
When I got stuck out in that thunderstorm, I wasn't watching too carefully where I was riding - and hit a low curb going a bit too slow to make it over.. so I ended up falling sideways.
My front sprockets dug into my calf.. I didn't notice it until a while later, when I saw the blood dripping down my leg. It's actually very minor - I had lots of time to get the bicycle grease out of the wounds and trim off the small avulsed flaps of skin while I was waiting for the storm to pass. (good thing I carry a first-aid kit in my bike bag!) .
Apart from the leg injury.. I'm just a tad sore all-over from the fall. My ego has recovered enough that I'm posting this picture for all those folks who need a creative commons licensed contusion :)
The scrape a bit closer to my foot is from doing yardwork, the smaller bruise between the two injuries is part of the bicycling injury.
Slicked a quarter-sized chunk (also over 3mm deep) off my thumb last night with a mandolin while chopping potatoes for a potato-leek soup. Spent the night in Emergency - they initially tried to sew it back, but no dice. Now I have a half-moon disc cut out of the side of my thumb.
This is the Fonzie "AYYYY!" bandaging the hospital did. Still bleeding some 8 hours later, if I don't elevate it.
ALWAYS use the guard on a mandolin, stupid!

I fell at skating. 3 Times.
This was that night I was kinda swollen. I had ridiculous bruises the following days and like skate floor wood burn. Good times.
1. My fault, fell straight onto my butt.
2. Little kids fault. They fell infront of me so I fell/jumped over them.
3. Goldfish's fault. She will argue but just trust me. She pushed them down. (kidding!)
I ripped my favorite tights. =/ Now they're a battle trophey.
