We don't see the native hares in our neighbourhood frequently, but certainly every once in a while. Initially I was thrilled to see one in the front garden this morning, but then noticed the injury on its left side. It looks like it's had it for a while, and so we're hoping and praying it's only minor. Not sure if the scar is from a run-in with one of the local predators, or a fence...

Hard to imagine how this bench on a walking path was hit by a vehicle, pretty well destroyed.

The marks on her throat were angry and red where the Hand had put his hands, strangling her until she lost consciousness.

happy polaroid week to all of you!

This is the second tree out of my new series "Injuries".

In my second Polaroid mosaic series on climate change, I combine Polaroid transparencies with watercolour painting to visualize the injuries inflicted by human activity. The result is a collection of unique artworks that reflect both the beauty and vulnerability of our environment.

I choose Polaroid as my medium because these images exude a nostalgic charm and evoke memories of times gone by. They are as individual and unreproducible as the trees they depict. By incorporating watercolour painting, I introduce an additional dimension that illustrates the fragility of nature and the strength of human intervention. Through the use of colours and textures, I symbolize the damage our planet is enduring due to climate change.

With these mosaics, I invite viewers to engage in a dialogue about the role of humans in nature and the responsibility we bear for our planet. It is an invitation to reflect on the impact we are having and the possibilities for living in harmony with nature.

The first tree in this new series is on display in the ‘unmittelbar 2024’ exhibition. If you would like to learn more about my work and art, please visit my website:

Dolores O'Riordan

_______________________________________________

"Zombie" is a protest song by Irish alternative rock band the Cranberries, written by the band's lead singer Dolores O'Riordan about The Troubles in Northern Ireland. It was released on 19 September 1994 by Island Records as the lead single from their second studio album, No Need to Argue (1994), two weeks ahead of the album's release. Music critics have long recognized "Zombie" as "a masterpiece of alternative rock", as well as a grunge number uncharacteristic of the band's other work.

"Zombie" reached No. 1 on the charts of Australia, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, and Iceland, and although it did not chart on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, it did reach No. 1 on the US Billboard Alternative Airplay chart. In addition, the song was voted by Australian radio Triple J listeners as No. 1 on the 1994 Triple J Hottest 100 chart. It won the Best Song Award at the 1995 MTV Europe Music Awards. The accompanying music video was directed by Samuel Bayer.

In 2017, the song was released as an acoustic, stripped-down version on the band's Something Else album. In April 2020, it became the first song by an Irish group to surpass one billion views on YouTube.

Background

The Troubles were a conflict in Northern Ireland from the late 1960s to 1998. During the conflict more than 3,500 people died and thousands more were injured. The Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA), an Irish republican paramilitary organisation, waged an armed campaign to end British rule in Northern Ireland and unite the region with the Republic of Ireland. Republican and Unionist paramilitaries killed thousands of people. Over 10,000 bomb attacks were perpetrated by paramilitary groups in Ireland and England.

The song was written in response to the death of Johnathan Ball, aged 3, and Tim Parry, aged 12, both of whom had been killed in the 1993 Warrington bombings, when two IRA improvised explosive devices hidden in litter bins were detonated in a shopping street in Warrington, England. Ball died at the scene of the bombing as a result of his shrapnel-inflicted injuries, and five days later, Parry lost his life as a result of head injuries. 56 others were injured, some seriously. Parry died in his father's arms in a hospital in Walton, Liverpool. The two boys had gone shopping to buy Mother's Day cards on one of the town's busiest shopping streets.

There were a lot of bombs going off in London and I remember this one time a child was killed when a bomb was put in a rubbish bin – that's why there's that line in the song, 'A child is slowly taken'. [ ... ] We were on a tour bus and I was near the location where it happened, so it really struck me hard – I was quite young, but I remember being devastated about the innocent children being pulled into that kind of thing. So I suppose that's why I was saying, 'It's not me' – that even though I'm Irish it wasn't me, I didn't do it. Because being Irish, it was quite hard, especially in the UK when there was so much tension.

Proverbs 9:7 “Whoever corrects a scoffer gets himself abuse, and he who reproves a wicked man incurs injury.”

A few weeks ago, the male bluebird nesting in our backyard was observed being unable to use his right leg. Here you see he is resting on the limb with the leg hanging off. I was concerned if he could help the female with the brood. Turned out that even with one leg, he could catch bugs and manage egress into the nesting box. Recently returning from a two week trip, I was thrilled to see the male actively using his right leg again and a yard full of fledgling bluebirds.

As the sun was setting, the Owls discovered the advancing snake. They hovered over, and then posted guard. shockingly, the snake reacted by coiling up and covering its head: according to the locals, the Owl wedging a few ounces was a greater threat to the large Anaconda than the snake was to it when the dual was in the open. The owl would attack the head repeatedly until the snake injuries would be irreversible. To protect it the snake was returned to the pond.

if the snake can get to the burrow undetected, the odds are now in its favor.

Photographic work in a hospital shown in my exhibition entitled "Care" on 2 July 2021 in Paris, France.

This is my life and my story - then and now

This is my brother. we were raised in foster homes and throughout most of our early adulthood. I went one way (military) and he went another, (street life and in and out of prison for non violent crimes)

Homelessness and alcohol ruled his life, mine was ruled by raising a family and living thousands of miles away from him while I was in the army. We connected several times during those 20 years and he lived with me for over a year at one duty station in the 1980′s but then we went our separate ways again.

I moved to California after retiring from the military 14 years ago and he would visit the kids and I but was drunk most of the time.

About 10 years ago he hit rock bottom when he was drinking sun up to sun down and had a severe car accident that required surgeries for internal injuries and several broken bones in his hand and arm. 6 months later he had an alcoholic seizure that caused him to incur a traumatic brain injury, surgery and a month in a coma. I kept him at my place after his release from the hospital, got him on disability and was looking for long term care but all this still didn’t stop him from drinking – so we were estranged and he lived with a family he knew.

I found him this past April and learned that he has been sober for 8 years. He still has a few seizures a year from the scarring on his brain.

It is amazing how people can change – it is even more amazing that in this photo he is only 53 years old and I was 51.

I felt 107 in this photo but it was a good day.

you can see his left hand (yes he is a lefty) can't open fully and he has scars on his face. On the left side of his head there is a big dent and scar that runs from his temple to the back of his head and he has a scar from his chest to his belly button. Loma Linda Hospital saved his life twice but he saved his life once and that is what brought us to this day.

He has a memory like steel for the past but can't remember something from 12 hours ago - he tries to write down reminders and then forgets where he left them or the importance of them when he sees them. Something as simple as fasting the night before a blood test is lost from when he goes to bed to when he gets up in the morning, or even the fact that he has a doctor's appointment.

Part of a set I did on self-injury. No, it's not real. Corn syrup and food coloring. But it's a real situation that countless people have experienced.

It was cathartic to do these. I wanted to turn my painful past experiences into something beautiful.

Apparently a friggin' TON of people have viewed this, and yet... no comments.

Come on, guys.

It’s a few days shy of being two months since I broke my ankle. I had another follow-up appointment today and the doctor had good news. The bone is healed, I can ditch the crutches and put full weight on my ankle! I’m not out of the woods yet, but it feels good to walk around (as best I can). My ligaments still need some time and my right leg muscles have atrophied. Tomorrow I begin physical therapy and I’m ready to do what it takes to be back skiing as soon as possible!

Yep. My first skateboarding accident. The bruise was fierce. Too bad my camera-phone couldn't capture the lividity of it very well.

This morning while running my normal 3 mile run. I happen to run pass this young baby seal.

After I finish my run, I went back to photograph it. Now as I edit the photo I realize it is injured. Looks like it’s bleeding from it’s left flipper.

Halichoerus grypus. Part of a group of 8 immature Grey Seals resting at high tide at Flamborough Head, East Yorkshire. These are teenagers hanging about quite a way from their nearest breeding colonies. A couple of them have injuries, one to the neck and two with injuries to the belly. Tim Melling has suggested that the injuries look like they have been caused by other Grey Seals. The Grey Seal population in the North Sea is continued to increase.
