Photos taken during the Hammer At Bray III event on 5 August 2007 at Bray Studios, near Windsor, the former home of Hammer Films.

The event took place in the grounds of Bray Studios, and the historic mansion of Down Place which lies at the centre of the complex. Many fans and former employees of Hammer Films attended.

The weather was stunning, but far too warm and bright for me. I was unfamiliar with the borrowed DSLR camera, and saved only as Jpg, not RAW files, which has caused problems editing. The images simply record elements of the day and the complex of Bray Studios themselves. I took remarkably few of the actors and craftsmen.

This, still working, Victorian paper mill is on the site where the Fourdrinier brothers developed the first continuous running paper machine. The Gade Valley in Hertfordshire was home to several paper mills, mostly owned by Dickinsons. This is the last mill to survive.

I was wandering around the Prairie Avenue historic district when this building at 1618 caught my eye. It was a Commonwealth Edison substation designed by Herman von Holst in 1925. Mr. Von Holst was a graduate of both the University of Chicago and the architecture program at MIT. He is best known for overseeing Frank Lloyd Wright's practice when Wright went to Europe whith Mamah Cheney in 1908.

We have posted a video of this building on ChiTownView. youtu.be/9jPHTiy4zxE

Damage at the seaward end of Hastings Pier - the structure crumbling to the sea, and a banner flapping in the wind.

Hastings Pier was built in 1872, designed by Eugenius Birch.

Seen as an innovative Victorian design, the structure reached its peak of popularity in the 1930s, but continued to serve as a music and entertainment venue through the 1960s and up to the 1990s.

The pier was damaged in 1990 following a storm, and closed in 2006 after being deemed unsafe by the local council. In 2010 the pier was destroyed by a fire and has lain dormant ever since, in spit of local attempts to raise the money to rebuild and reopen.

The pier is a sorry sight now, structurally unsound and closed off to public access. The ironwork continues to rust and be claimed by the sea. The structures left on the pier continue to be battered by the elements. The overall impression is of decay and dereliction.

A Steampunk gathering was in full swing when I visited with a sales area inside the great Machine Hall - the place to buy those much needed accessories. Returning big-game hunters, grouse-shooters and polar explorers mingle with the crowd.

Ford Motor Company Assembly Plant

Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historical Park

Richmond, California

Albert Kahn, architect, 1930

The Ford Motor Company Assembly Plant was the largest assembly plant to be built on the West Coast. One of only three tank depots in the entire country, approximately 49,000 jeeps were assembled and 91,000 other military vehicles were processed here. Ford employed thousands of workers at the site during World War II, many of them women who were entering the work force for the first time.

If you’d like to view my images larger… While I only allow my contacts to view my larger images (I generally upload at least 800px images on the long axis)…

a quick workaround I might suggest is to view my photostream as a slideshow. Works well for me. This is frequently how I view others’ ‘streams, and it will put a large image on black. just click the projector screen icon next to the stream or set. : )

on 01 jan 2010, I began a new journey w/ a flickr 365 group that i formed. The idea is that I strive to push myself daily; by exploring techniques, ideas, and experiments.

View of the crumbling Hastings Pier from the beach end gates which block entry for the public. The remnants of the structure can be seen in the background.

A number of signs appealing for help for the restoration of the pier are posted along the fences. Some wit has marked graffiti on most of them.
