increasing deregulation and globalization have created a world in which corporations feel that they can do whatever they want, where they want without accountability to legislators or local populations. it's time to wake up and smell the coffee, find out where it came from, how it was made, how much the growers and workers got paid, whether forest was cleared to grow it ... you get the picture. blind consumerism is destroying our world and making other species extinct at an unprecendented rate - all for the sake of short-term profits that are enjoyed by a small minority. it's time for a mass movement, because our governments will not listen to anything else.

June 20, Philadelphia --
Council members and community leaders announced an agreement at Iglesias Gardens on June 20 that Philadelphia city government would buy back over 90 community gardens and green spaces currently held by bank liens. City Councilmembers Kendra Brooks, Darrell L. Clarke, Jamie Gauthier and Quetcy M. Lozada spoke at the event in front of dozens of community garden activists.
According to the Philly Voice (tinyurl.com/4hv42b4p), a failed effort to raise money for the School District of Philadelphia in 1997 resulted in city officials selling off 30,000 city-owned land parcels to U.S. Bank. Though it did not solve the funding problem for the District, the properties have been held by bank liens for more than two decades and are currently being sold off individually at sheriff's sales.
Many of the lots, which have sat dormant and neglected for years, were taken up by community residents who provide upkeep and maintenance. As the communities do not own the properties, they are often left with limited notification if the land is being sold at a sheriff's sale.
The agreement which costs the city $1 million would allow the city to reacquire some of the remaining properties and work with City Council and other neighborhood stakeholders to return the plots of land to the communities they're located in.

Governor Josh Shapiro visited the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire's Station No. 1 to highlight an additional $2 million in annual state funding for the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire included in the 2025-26 budget, strengthening support for the firefighters who protect the Commonwealth's capital city. The funding brings total state support for the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire to $7 million per year - a 40 percent increase over the previous year.
"My family and I have personally witnessed the bravery and professionalism of our Harrisburg firefighters and first responders. They run toward danger to keep people safe - not just on one difficult day, but every single day, for people across Harrisburg," said Governor Shapiro. "A budget isn't just a collection of line items - it's a statement of our priorities. Firefighters put themselves in harm's way to protect their communities, and this investment is one way we show them that we have their backs. I made a commitment to keep fighting for the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire, and through a challenging budget process, they remained a priority. This funding will help strengthen stations, modernize equipment, and support the firefighters who serve this city with courage and dedication.

A study from Israel has confirmed a strong correlation between a massive increase in emergency cardiovascular events among people under the age of 40 and the beginning of the country’s mass Covid vaccination program.
“While not establishing causal relationships,” the authors wrote, “the findings raise concerns regarding vaccine-induced undetected severe cardiovascular side-effects and underscore the already established causal relationship between vaccines and myocarditis, a frequent cause of unexpected cardiac arrest in young individuals.”
The study, ‘Increased emergency cardiovascular events among under-40 population in Israel during vaccine rollout and third COVID-19 wave’ published in Nature on 28 April, used data from Israel’s National Emergency Medical Services (“EMS”) between 2019 and 2021 and evaluated emergency calls among 16- to 39-year-olds across Israel “with potential factors including Covid-19 infection and vaccination rates.”
“This study leverages a unique dataset of all EMS CA and ACS calls in Israel over two and half years that span 14 months prior to the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, 10 months that include two waves of the Covid-19 pandemic, and 6 months with a third wave of the pandemic parallel to the vaccination rollout among the 16-year-old and over population.”
The researchers found a 25% increase in emergency calls for CA and ACS between January to May 2021, compared with the same period in 2019 and 2020.

Increasing number of fast food restaurants, and hawker food also became oilier. More and more people, especially kids, are overweight now. Is this a problem we should take note of?
Obesity is a problem that should not be taken too lightly. It is now not about appearance, but also health risks we should be careful about.
