The Baltic is synonymous, among other things, with amber, the product of resin that oozed from pines about 40 million years ago.
As anyone who has had a run-in with resin on firewood knows, it is sticky as all get out. Once in a blue moon, unlucky insects would become trapped in the stuff, thereby ensuring their immortality.
Fakes abound, but I photographed these pieces of amber at an amber museum on the Curonian Spit near Klaipeda, Lithuania, so there's a much better chance these insects are 40 million years old than the stuff that's being flogged on Ebay.

My last photo provoked some fruitful discussions about composition...
Isn't it a rule of thumb when one composes a shot to exclude more and more until only the essential elements remain? My initial thought here was to include the church only, or the elevator only, but no matter what perspective or angle I tried, it did not work - it only looked cluttered. Until I saw this street lamp, and moved back to include it. Maybe more can result in less? At least I hope it works - what do you think?

This tree decided it didn't like being outside the fence, so it just squeezed itself through the bars to live its life as an 'insider'. I think it's now trying to include the fence as part of its trunk.

A parasitoid wasp (~0.5 mm) and a midge (~0.8 mm) have become enclosed on sporangia. Note the two neared wings of the wasp that are just visible. An unusual occurrence.

The Leitrim Beds & Herts Asociation had the first of their celebrations as the Association enters its 50th year at St Joseph’s Parish Centre, Luton.
For me as the outsider, I felt this association showed just how much the younger generation value the older generation.
A coming together of the entire community.

D-CNCA was operated by Nixdorf, a German computer manufacturer, and was based at Paderborn from 1987 till 1990. After being used in Switzerland (as HB-VKA) and the US (as N100TB), it was sold as PT-WIB in 1994 and was seen as such in 2020, active.

Farmers using 2KUZE can conduct the entire transaction of selling produce and receiving payments via their feature phones, without having to walk for hours to the markets. Baltic amber - extremely rare male wedge-shaped beetle (Rhipiphoridae), body about 5 mm.
They are one of the most unusual beetle families, in that they are parasitoids - different groups within the family attack different hosts, but most are associated with bees or vespid wasps, while some others are associated with roaches. They often have abbreviated elytra, and branched antennae.
Those that attack bees typically lay their eggs on flowers, where they hatch almost immediately into small planidium larvae that wait for a passing host. They grab onto a bee when it visits the flower, and ride it back to its nest, where they disembark and enter a cell with a host larva. The beetle larva then enters the body of the host larva, where it waits while the larva grows. When the host pupates, the beetle larva migrates to the outside of its body and begins to feed, eventually consuming it. (wikipedia)

I'm not sure what the substances are inside this tube that runs down the center of my heliodor crystal (iron oxide is a wild guess) , but it formed bands in the tube like sections of fluid in the tube of a broken thermometer...
Insect inclusions in Baltic amber, approximately 45-50 million years old.
It looks to me like this fly has a mite on the leg protruding out the front!
Crystals placed on a white backdrop, model lights used to reflect off the White back using a bright field approach. The light was blocked from direct contact of the crystals, The lack of direct light also created the dark surface they sit on. Shot with a Nikon D80 and a Sigma 105 macro.
These inclusions are just below the surface of the upper termination of this aquamarine crystal.From Erongo, Namibia.

Asteroid bodies are stellate inclusions with numerous rays radiating from a central core that are present in the cytoplasm of giant cells. . They may be be seen in sarcoidosis and other granulomatous disorders. They are most frequently encountered in the giant cells of foreign body granulomas.
La directora de Prosperidad Social, Susana Correa, inauguró, este miércoles, dos proyectos de infraestructura social y hábitat y firmó dos convenios más para financiar obras en Cauca. Lo hizo en el marco de la Semana de la Inclusión por la Equidad, que la entidad organizó para sumarse a la conmemoración del Día Internacional para la Erradicación de la Pobreza.
En Timbío, la entidad realizó 104 mejoramientos de vivienda, en los que invirtió 1.603 millones de pesos: construcción de unidades sanitarias y mejoramientos de cocinas. Esta obra generó 58 empleos y benefició a familias de la zona rural y urbana.
“Con estos mejoramientos dignificamos la vida de ciudadanos con menos recursos. El objetivo es reducir el déficit cualitativo de vivienda, para impactar positivamente en uno de los índices de pobreza multidimensional”, dijo Correa.
En Popayán, inauguró la cubierta del polideportivo del barrio Nuevo Japón. En esta obra la entidad invirtió 444 millones de pesos. Benefició a 1.200 habitantes, con un escenario adecuado para la práctica deportiva y las actividades culturales y sociales.
También se firmaron dos convenios. Uno para la construcción de la plaza de mercado en el barrio Bolívar de Popayán, que tiene un área de intervención de 4.780 metros. La entidad invertirá 12.791 millones de pesos. El otro convenio es para la construcción de la plaza de mercado en el corregimiento de Puerto Saiga, en Timbiquí. Beneficia a 26.800 habitantes. La inversión es de 2.310 millones de pesos.
En Cauca, durante el actual periodo de gobierno, se han realizado 48 proyectos de infraestructura social y hábitat, con una inversión de más de 45.826 millones de pesos. Han beneficiado a 947.361 personas. Han generado 1.225 empleos.
También se han firmado siete convenios y un contrato interadministrativo para ejecutar nueve proyectos en los municipios de Padilla, Piendamó, Corinto, Puerto Tejada, Cajibío, Santander de Quilichao, Guapi y Morales. La inversión de Prosperidad Social es de más de 18.590 millones de pesos.
En el marco de la Semana de la Inclusión por la Equidad, Prosperidad Social entregó donaciones a mujeres pertenecientes a 283 familias vulnerables, en Popayán, Cauca. Son mujeres privadas de la libertad, cabeza de hogar y víctimas del conflicto armado.
Los kits fueron gestionados por la Dirección de Gestión y Articulación de la Oferta Social de la entidad. Contienen 555 rollos de telas. “Las donaciones representan 774.619.560 pesos en bienes y elementos. Ayudarán a mitigar el impacto de la pandemia”, dijo Susana Correa, directora de Prosperidad Social.
La entrega de donaciones en el país hace parte de la ruta de trabajo por la superación de la pobreza. La entidad organizó la Semana de la Inclusión para ratificar su compromiso con el trabajo para erradicar la pobreza: un reto y un compromiso que los países conmemoran el 17 de octubre de cada año. “La erradicación de la miseria es un objetivo fundamental. Los países están obligados a eliminarla, mediante estrategias que garanticen el ejercicio de todos los derechos humanos y aseguren que no se deja a nadie atrás”, dijo Correa.
La entidad realiza las entregas de donaciones a través de su dirección regional, en alianza estratégica y operativa con la Alcaldía, la Contraloría, la Defensoría del Pueblo, la Procuraduría, la DIAN, la Personería y la Dirección de la Cárcel de Mujeres de Popayán, entre otras entidades. Las actividades cumplen con todos los protocolos para garantizar la vigencia de la calidad de los elementos y la seguridad y la salud de los beneficiarios. Los elementos donados son gestionados ante la Dirección de Impuestos y Aduanas Nacionales (DIAN).
Entre enero y septiembre de 2021, Prosperidad Social gestionó en el país bienes en especie para donaciones por más de 29.286.018.500 pesos. Las donaciones han llegado a 106 municipios de 29 departamentos, beneficiando a 79.218 hogares en condición de pobreza y vulnerabilidad.

"Sunstone" refers to feldspar masses with inclusions that flash warm-colored to rainbow-colored light. The inclusions are usually clusters of small hematite plates (Fe2O3 - iron oxide). "Oregon sunstone" has inclusions of native copper. This example has hematite inclusions.
