Der Luftkur- und Wintersportort liegt etwa 14 km nordnordwestlich von Trient auf einer Höhe von 864 m s.l.m. östlich der Brenta-Gruppe am Ufer des Lago di Molveno und zu Füßen des östlich gelegenen Massivs der Paganella.
Der etwa 4 km langen Molvenossee, der bis zu 120 m tief ist, wird durch einen kleinen Bach und mehrere kleine Zuflüsse aus den Bergen gespeist.
Molveno is a comune (municipality) in Trentino in the northern Italian region of Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, located about 40 kilometres (25 mi) northwest of Trento. It is famous for its positioning on Lake Molveno as a holiday destination, its nearby ski resorts (Andalo-Paganella and its connection to the National Park Adamello Brenta.
Molveno is located at the northern end of a 4-kilometre (2.5 mi) long lake (Lago di Molveno), at the foot of the Brenta Group and the Paganella mountain.
The Lake of Molveno, formed by a landslide about 4000 years ago, is the second largest in Trentino-Alto Adige, 3.3 square kilometres (1.3 sq mi). It has a maximum depth of 123 metres (404 ft). It's famous for its diverse fish species, including trout, arctic char and perch.
The Pitstone Windmill as dusk falls with the mysterious and ancient Ivinghoe Beacon. This is where the historic Ridgeway Path, starts its journey.
The windmill has stood here since 1627 and it closed in 1894 after it was badly damaged in a storm. It was restored by a group of enthusiast`s and is now full operational and open to the public.
The Ridgeway path follows the high ground across the Chilterns for 87miles and ends at Avebury [ famous for its standing stones ] in Wiltshire. The path has been in use since the Neolithic period by early man as it was safer to travel across the hills than down in the valleys because of the impenetrable forests and danger of attack by wild animals. It has been used from medieval times right up to the 50s by travelling tradesmen [ journeymen ] and travelling sales men [peddlers] carrying their goods to the various markets in the many villages that it passes through. Its a haven for wildlife including butterflies as well as the flowers that grow on the rich chalk grassland and it was originally part of a deep lagoon off the coast of west Africa before the tutonic plates shifted millions of years ago.
There are many megalithic features on the Ridgeway including Bronze age Long Barrows { Graves } Iron age Hill Forts and Standing Stones.
An amazing place, I have walked sections of it. I hope to walk it in its entirety next year as long as my legs, and me can hold out that long!!!

Hymenopus coronatus, also called H. bicornis, is a mantis from the rain forests of Southeast Asia. It is known by various common names including walking flower mantis and orchid mantis. This tiny creature is only about the size of my thumbnail!

Yellowhammer - Emberiza Citrinella
The yellowhammer (Emberiza citrinella) is a passerine bird in the bunting family that is native to Eurasia and has been introduced to New Zealand and Australia. Most European birds remain in the breeding range year-round, but the eastern subspecies is partially migratory, with much of the population wintering further south. The male yellowhammer has a bright yellow head, streaked brown back, chestnut rump and yellow underparts. Other plumages are duller versions of the same pattern. The yellowhammer is common in open areas with some shrubs or trees, and forms small flocks in winter. Its song has a rhythm like "A little bit of bread and no cheese". The song is very similar to that of its closest relative, the pine bunting, with which it interbreeds.
Yellowhammer males learn their songs from their fathers, and over the course of time regional dialects have developed, with minor differences to the conclusion of the basic song; all are mutually recognised by birds from different areas. Each male has an individual repertoire of song variants within its regional dialect; females tend to mate with males that share their dialect, and prefer those with the largest repertoires.
The pine bunting and yellowhammer are so closely related that each responds to the other's song. The male yellowhammer's song is more attractive to females, and is one reason for the dominance of that species where the ranges overlap.
Yellowhammers of the British and Irish race, E. c. caliginosa were introduced to New Zealand by local acclimatisation societies in 1862, and soon spread over the main islands. They sometimes visit New Zealand's subantarctic islands, although rarely staying to breed, and have reached Australia's Lord Howe Island on a number of occasions. At the beginning of the 20th century, this bunting was seen as a serious agricultural pest in its adopted country.
Populations of yellowhammer have also been introduced to the Falkland Islands, and South Africa.
The yellowhammer is a bird of dry open country, preferably with a range of vegetation types and some trees from which to sing. It is absent from urban areas, forests and wetlands. Probably originally found at forest edges and large clearing, it has benefited from traditional agriculture, which created extensive open areas with hedges and clumps of trees.
Populations have declined in recent decades in western Europe, including the British Isles, Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria and Italy. The yellowhammer is a red-list (severely declining) species in Ireland and the UK In eastern Europe, numbers appear to be stable, although the trend in Russia is unknown. Changes to agricultural practices are thought to be responsible for reduced breeding densities. The introduced population in New Zealand has been very successful, with breeding densities much higher than in the UK.

Harbour Authority vessels, fishing boats, sailboats, yachts and various other water craft, including Kayaks, canoes and paddleboards share the waterway that runs along the banks of the Fraser River in Ladner, BC.
This small section of the River is lined with colourful float homes.
Ladner is a part of the City of Delta, British Columbia, Canada, and a suburb of Vancouver, British Columbia. It was created as a fishing village on the banks of the Fraser River.
Named for Thomas and William Ladner, who came to the area in 1868 and began large farming and fishing operations, it developed as a centre for these operations. A series of ferries, culminating in the Ladner Ferry, allowed for access across the river to Richmond. The George Massey Tunnel provided a permanent connection in 1959.History
Like many areas around the Fraser River on what is now Greater Vancouver the area on the south side of the south arm of the Fraser was named for the original Europeans to settle there. First called Ladner's Landing, the area was settled by Thomas Ellis Ladner (1837–1922) and William Henry Ladner (1826–1907).[1] They had travelled from their home in Cornwall, UK to pursue the gold rush in California and later on the Fraser River. Settling on the area of the Fraser River Delta either side of the Chilukthan Slough in 1868, both turned to farming and fishing.

Bank Voles are almost entirely herbivorous, their diet including dead leaves in winter. However this one seems to be holding a black sunflower seed in its delightfully tiny hands giving a great sense of scale.

Little Egret - Egretta garzetta
The little egret (Egretta garzetta) is a species of small heron in the family Ardeidae. The genus name comes from the Provençal French Aigrette, egret a diminutive of Aigron, heron. The species epithet garzetta is from the Italian name for this bird, garzetta or sgarzetta.
It is a white bird with a slender black beak, long black legs and, in the western race, yellow feet. As an aquatic bird, it feeds in shallow water and on land, consuming a variety of small creatures. It breeds colonially, often with other species of water birds, making a platform nest of sticks in a tree, bush or reed bed. A clutch of bluish-green eggs is laid and incubated by both parents. The young fledge at about six weeks of age.
Its breeding distribution is in wetlands in warm temperate to tropical parts of Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. A successful colonist, its range has gradually expanded north, with stable and self-sustaining populations now present in the United Kingdom.
It first appeared in the UK in significant numbers in 1989 and first bred in Dorset in 1996
In warmer locations, most birds are permanent residents; northern populations, including many European birds, migrate to Africa and southern Asia to over-winter there. The birds may also wander north in late summer after the breeding season, and their tendency to disperse may have assisted in the recent expansion of the bird's range. At one time common in Western Europe, it was hunted extensively in the 19th century to provide plumes for the decoration of hats and became locally extinct in northwestern Europe and scarce in the south. Around 1950, conservation laws were introduced in southern Europe to protect the species and their numbers began to increase. By the beginning of the 21st century the bird was breeding again in France, the Netherlands, Ireland and Britain. It has also begun to colonise the New World; it was first seen in Barbados in 1954 and first bred there in 1994. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has assessed the bird's global conservation status as being of least concern..

The international Marmalade Festival at Dalemain House and Gardens, Penrith, Cumbria. The 2022 competition had over 3,000 amateur entrants, in various categories. Anyone can enter.
The Awards are centred on Dalemain Mansion; a stately home lived in by the same family for over 300 years, which also happens to hold a very rich archive of Marmalade recipes.
People enter the Marmalade Awards from a wide array of countries including UK, Australia, Japan, Lebanon, Colombia, Senegal, Brazil, the Czech Republic, Canada, India and Singapore. Any marmalade will be considered for the competition, as long as it is predominantly citrus, and they love to receive marmalades made from new and unusual citrus fruits and ingredients.
Started in 2005, all proceeds go to the Hospice At Home Charity, with a total approaching £300,000.

Nice to discover last week that my image 'Sunkenkirk' has been Shortlisted in this year's Historic Photographer Of The Year competition in the Historic England category.
This stone circle sits in a quiet corner of the Lake District and is much quieter than the more famous Castlerigg. On this morning, the sun rose over the distant hilly horizon and illuminated the stones perfectly, creating a very magical atmosphere. Local legend alleges that a church was being constructed on this site, but each night the Devil would pull down the stones and consequently created the stone circle - hence the monument's name of Sunkenkirk.
This image was published in a few online articles including The Daily Mail, The Telegraph & BBC as well as the winners and other shortlisted entries.
The village of Kirkjubøur contains several significant historic sites, including the ruins of the Magnus Cathedral, which dates from around 1300; Saint Olav's Church, from the 12th century; and one of the world's oldest inhabited wooden houses, the Roykstovan farmhouse, which dates to the 11th century and has been occupied by descendants of the same family since 1550. It is a perennial shrub or tree, very popular in tropical landscaping, which has a woody, erect, branched and thorny stem.
The inflorescences are composed of red, orange-red, pinkish-red or yellow flowers, depending on the variety, all characterized by long stamens. Flowering occurs in spring and summer.
The fruits are of the vegetable type and appear in Autumn.
It should be grown in full sun or partial shade, but is tolerant of light cold, in subtropical or Mediterranean climates, becoming deciduous (loses its leaves in Winter). It is multiplied by seeds.
Some peoples use the plant as a medicinal plant, with anti-inflammatory properties, but care must be taken as it is a toxic plant, including abortifacient.

Ponta de São Lourenço.
Ponta de São Lourenço is the easternmost point of the island of Madeira. It is inside the town of Caniçal and forms a part of the municipality of Machico. Its terrain are made up of rocks and herbaceous vegetation. Since 1982, the headland is a nature reserve, where it has the conservation of its endemic plants including Matthiola maderensis, Echium nervosum, and Andryala glandulosa, and it has fauna, including birds, insects, and molluscs. One of them is Monachus monachus, a seal.
Kaziranga is a vast expanse of tall elephant grass, marshland, and dense tropical moist broadleaf forests, criss-crossed by four major rivers, including the Brahmaputra, and the park includes numerous small bodies of water. Kaziranga has been the theme of several books, songs, and documentaries. The park celebrated its centennial in 2005 after its establishment in 1905 as a reserve forest. (Wikipedia)

Asian Adventures.
This 18th-century church boasts the highest tower in colonial Quito and a wealth of fascinating art, including paintings that show volcanoes erupting over the church roofs of the city and the capital covered with ashes.
Legend says that the tower, the only unblessed part of the church, is possessed by the devil. Supposedly the only person strong enough to resist the devil was a bell-ringer named Ceferino, and no one has dared enter the tower since he died in 1810.

The Basilica de Nuestra Señora de la Merced is located in the Ecuadorian capital Quito. The white building has five domes and a square tower. The building is decorated with Incan and Moorish inscriptions. Construction started in 1701. The tower was completed in 1736 and the basilica was consecrated in 1747.

Some little known facts about jelly fish:
1. The largest recorded jellyfish had tentacles over 120ft long!
The largest jellyfish known to man is the Lions Mane jellyfish. It has an average bell diameter of around 50cm but the largest specimens can be as big as 6ft in diameter with tentacles 100ft or more in length! The largest Lions Mane jellyfish recorded was found in Massachusetts. It had a bell diameter of 2.3m and its tentacles were 37m (121.4ft) long!
2. Jellyfish have no brain!
They also have no heart, bones or blood and are around 95% water! So how do they function without a brain or central nervous system? They have a basic set of nerves at the base of their tentacles which can detect touch, temperature, salinity etc. Since they don’t have a brain, they depend on automatic reflexes in response to these stimuli! Catching prey is also a matter of chance. They don’t actively hunt down their food; they just wait for prey to come in contact with their tentacles.
3. There are around 2000 known species of jellyfish!
There are more than 2000 different types of jellyfish, with many more still waiting to be discovered. Only approximately 70 of these species have stings strong enough to harm humans. Jellyfish are found in every ocean of the world, including around the UK!
4. Jellyfish have been around for approximately 650 million years!
Jellyfish have no bones so fossils are hard to come by, but scientists have evidence that these creatures have been bobbing along in the world’s oceans for around 650 million years or even longer. That means they pre-date the dinosaurs by hundreds of millions of years!
5. Jellyfish are a popular snack for the Leatherback Turtle!
Leatherback Turtles are known to follow groups of jellyfish in order to get a tasty meal, often bringing them close to coastlines like the UK. These turtles aren’t the only species to find jellyfish appetizing; in some parts of the world humans also view jellyfish as a delicacy! The most common jellyfish chosen for this delicacy is the Cannonball jellyfish.
6. Jellyfish are not actually fish!
Jellyfish live mainly in the ocean but aren’t actually fish. They are plankton, and float in the water as they are carried by currents. They are members of the Cnidarian family, along with coral and anemones!
7. Jellyfish are taking over the oceans!
In recent years certain parts of the world have seen a problematic increase in jellyfish populations, called blooms. Scientists believe this is to do with additional nutrients in the water, climate change or fishing along the coastlines. Some researchers are concerned that the increased numbers of jellyfish could compete for food resources with fish and other marine animals, and eventually out-compete native local species. Jellyfish are one of the very few creatures that have been known to adapt to ocean dead zones, where there is little oxygen and lots of pollution.

(Tooth-billed Tanager / Cardenal Montañero)
Hepatic Tanager is the most widely distributed Piranga tanager, ranging from the southwest United States south to northern Argentina. Its English name is based on the liver-red color of the adult male from the northern part of the species' range; however, its scientific name, flava, meaning "yellow," derives from the original description, which is based on a female from Paraguay. These names reflect both a characteristic of the genus Piranga, marked sexual dichromatism, and the broad range of coloration, habitat, and behavior encompassed within the Hepatic Tanager as currently recognized.
Even though the Hepatic Tanager is currently considered one species, much evidence, including a recent study of molecular genetics, indicates that up to 3 species could be recognized, corresponding to the 3 groups of subspecies combined long ago. These groups and their respective species names are the Hepatic Tanager (P. hepatica) of montane pine-oak forests from the southwestern United States to Nicaragua, the Tooth-billed Tanager (P. lutea) of forest edges in foothills and mountains from Costa Rica to northern and western South America, and the Red Tanager (P. flava) of open woodlands of eastern and southeastern South America.

Wiener Melange at the Café Leopold Hawelka in the old town in Vienna, Austria.
Café Hawelka is a famous café in Vienna, Austria. It was opened by Leopold and josefine Hawelka in 1939.
The café was closed after the beginning of World War II, but was reopened in 1945 in the largely intact building.
After the end of Allied occupation in 1955, the café quickly became a meeting point for writers and critics including Heimito von Doderer, Albert Paris Gütersloh, Hilde Spiel, Friedrich Torberg and Hans Weigel. In 1961 it became more popular among artists and became a center of the art scene. Regular guests included Friedrich Achleitner, H. C. Artmann, Konrad Bayer, Ernst Fuchs, Friedensreich Hundertwasser, Rudolf Hausner, Wolfgang Hutter, Helmut Qualtinger, Gerhard Rühm, and Oskar Werner.
Josefine Hawelka died in 2005 after having managed the café for 66 years with her husband. She had baked the café's specialty, its Buchteln desserts (which are still made by Günther Hawelka, Josefine and Leopold's son).
Leopold Hawelka would sit at the entrance to his now famous café and greet his customers until he died in 2011.

The first wave of the storm arrived in the wee hours of the morning with thunder, snow squalls, and continued high winds. The snow covered all except the steepest rock faces and the areas protected by the overhang of White Rim Sandstone. A layer of ice coated many of the rock surfaces as the snow melted initially and then froze. A brief respite in the storm with a few breaks in the clouds after sunrise allowed a view toward the Maze District of Canyonlands NP, including Ekker Butte in the center of the frame.
You definitely need these two things in wildlife photography patience and luck if they both happen at once you sometimes get a nice shot. super chuffed to watch this right in front of me including all the build up!
This blue hour photograph was taken two weeks ago near Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay looking towards some landmarks including (from left) ArtScience Museum, Marina Bay Sands, Marina Bay Financial Centre and part of Central Business District.
It was windy that evening in Marina Bay. The colourful reflections provided complementary interests to the cityscape at blue hour.

Willow Warbler - Phylloscopus trochilus

It is a bird of open woodlands with trees and ground cover for nesting, including most importantly birch, alder, and willow habitats. The nest is usually built in close contact with the ground, often in low vegetation. Like most Old World warblers (Sylviidae), this small passerine is insectivorous. In northern Europe, it is one of the first warblers to return in the spring though is later than the closely related chiffchaff.
It is a typical leaf warbler in appearance, 11–12.5 cm long and 7–15 g weight. It is greenish brown above and off-white to yellowish below; the wings are plain greenish-brown with no wingbars. Juveniles are yellower below than adults. It is very similar to the chiffchaff, but non-singing birds can be distinguished from that species by their paler pinkish-yellow legs (dark brown to blackish in chiffchaff), longer paler bill, more elegant shape and longer primary projection (wingtip). Its song is a simple repetitive descending whistle, while the contact call is a disyllabic 'hoo-eet', distinct from the more monosyllabic 'hweet' of chiffchaffs.
Willow warblers prefer young, open, scrubby woodland with small trees, including human-altered habitats such as coppice and young plantations up to 10–20 years old. High amounts of birch, alder and willow, with good lichen amounts, and water features (e.g. streams), fields with large amounts of bracken and mosses, and patches of low bramble (for nest cover) are preferred, but it will use a wide range of other species, including young or open coniferous forests. Incorporating woodland ride edge thickets is beneficial, as is 15 metre woodland edges of varying structure and height. They prefer damp woodland areas. Thicket forming shrubs like blackthorn provide pockets of habitat. Deer browsing can degrade the required low cover.

The pale chanting goshawk is an opportunistic raptor and eats a wide variety of prey including small mammals, lizards, birds, large insects and carrion. It has also been recorded predating upon Tent tortoise and Leopard tortoise hatchlings which are swallowed whole while the shell is still soft. There is some evidence of social hunting in breeding groups but solitary hunting is the norm. Pale chanting goshawks commonly associate with foraging Honey badgers and feed on organisms that are flushed by the Honey badger's feeding activity. This association increases the hunting opportunities and prey capture success of the pale chanting goshawk while the honey badger does not suffer any loss of foraging efficiency. (Wikipedia)

A wet weather day so editing some previously uploaded images including this one. The moon framed by some ominous looking clouds in the North of Gran Canaria. Taken with a Canon 5D4 and a Sigma 125mm Art lens, early one morning hence the need for the high ISO.

The Malagasy giant chameleon or Oustalets's chameleon (Furcifer oustaleti ) is a very large species of chameleon which is endemic to Madagascar. It occurs in a wide range of habitats, even among degraded vegetation within villages, but is relatively rare in primary forest.
With a maximum total length (including tail) of 68.5 cm (27 in), F. oustaleti is considered the largest species of chameleon, but that claim is occasionally contested by the Parsons chameleon Calumma parsonii as the Parsons tends to be more heavily built but slightly shorter in length. Elle est conçue par le sculpteur israélien Dani Karavan à partir de 1980. L'Axe est composé de douze stations sur une longueur de 3,2 kilomètres, incluant une tour penchée, un ensemble de douze colonnes, une passerelle, une île ou encore un rayon laser qui survole le parcours. Il débute dans le quartier auquel il a donné son nom, Axe Majeur - Horloge (anciennement Saint-Christophe) et s'achève à la limite avec Neuville-sur-Oise, après avoir survolé les étangs artificiels de Cergy-Neuville. Symbole de la ville nouvelle, il est également l'une des œuvres importantes de Dani Karavan, qui accompagne sa construction pendant plus de trente ans.
The “Axe Majeur” is a monumental artwork located in Cergy, in the Val-d'Oise department, France. The work is located in a loop of the Oise River, in the new town Cergy-Pontoise. It was designed by the Israeli sculptor Dani Karavan from 1980. The Axis is composed of twelve stations over a length of 3.2 kilometers, including a leaning tower, a set of twelve columns, a footbridge, an island or a laser beam that flies over the course. It begins in the area to which it gave its name, Axe Majeur - Clock (formerly Saint-Christophe) and ends at the limit with Neuville-sur-Oise, after flying over the artificial ponds of Cergy-Neuville. Symbol of the new city, it is also one of the important works of Dani Karavan, who accompanies its construction for more than thirty years.
