"Tremella mesenterica (common names include yellow brain, golden jelly fungus, yellow trembler, and witches' butter) is a common jelly fungus in the Tremellaceae family of the Agaricomycotina. It is most frequently found on dead but attached and on recently fallen branches, especially of angiosperms, as a parasite of wood decay fungi in the genus Peniophora. The gelatinous, orange-yellow fruit body of the fungus, which can grow up to 7.5 cm (3.0 in) diameter, has a convoluted or lobed surface that is greasy or slimy when damp. It grows in crevices in bark, appearing during rainy weather. Within a few days after rain it dries into a thin film or shriveled mass capable of reviving after subsequent rain. This fungus occurs widely in deciduous and mixed forests and is widely distributed in temperate and tropical regions that include Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North and South America. Although considered bland and flavorless, the fungus is edible. Tremella mesenterica produces carbohydrates that are attracting research interest because of their various biological activities.
The fruit body has an irregular shape, and usually breaks through the bark of dead branches. It is up to 7.5 cm (3.0 in) broad and 2.5 to 5.0 cm (1.0 to 2.0 in) high, rounded to variously lobed or brain-like in appearance. The fruit body is gelatin-like but tough when wet, and hard when dry. The surface is usually smooth, the lobes translucent, deep yellow or bright yellow-orange, fading to pale yellow, rarely unpigmented and white or colorless. The fruit bodies dry to a dark reddish or orange. The spores, viewed in mass, are whitish or pale yellow." - WiKi

This image includes some editing through the use of NX-D, which is a free photo editing software for Nikon users that offers more functionality and power than ViewNX when processing NEF files. Although the added features are great, the interface leaves much to be desired and takes a bit of getting used to.
On my old laptop, NX-D still seems to process and render images faster than ViewNX and although the rendering speed cannot compare to Adobe software, it also doesn't freeze up and/or pixelate the preview of images after editing like ViewNX does at times (at least in my experience). NX-D does allow you to take the NEF images much further in terms of processing before converting to TIFF format.
The image initially was very dull and suffered from very poor lighting conditions, so I was pleasantly suprised with the amount of detail, colour and contrast I was able to extract from it.
I also used PS and Lr, of course, as well as Nik Software. Many jarring sticks and stalks were also cloned out.

Physic Garden
The Physic Garden has a traditional feel with separate beds, all well-labelled, ranging from culinary herbs such as fennel to thyme to useful household plants, not forgetting some poisonous plants. A range of the plants, including varieties of lavender and thyme, can be found in the Abbey shop at very reasonable prices! The herb beds demonstrate a good spread of traditional medicinal herbs from feverfew to selfheal. However, my eye was taken with the imposing arbour structure dividing the Physic Garden area into four quarters. Exemplary pruning of woody plants growing up alongside and through the arches can be seen: these include apple (Malus domestica), fig (Ficus carica), honeysuckle (Lonicera periclymenum), medlar (Mespilus germanica), pear (Pyrus communis) and quince (Cydonia oblonga). Having been pruned hard back, these plants will be highly productive of flowers and fruit.

Eastern Chipmunk.
Between 8 1/2 to 11 3/4 inches in length. Reddish brown above with a white belly. 1 white stripe bordered by 2 black stripes on sides ending at the rump. 2 white stripes on back nuch thinner than side stripes. Dark center stripe down the back. Pale facial stripes above and below the eyes. Tail brown on tip and edged with black. Prominent ears.
The Eastern Chipmunk's habitat includes open deciduous woodlands, forest edges, brushy areas, bushes and stone walls in cemeteries and around houses.
They range from southeastern Canada and the north-eastern U.S. east from North Dakota and eastern Oklahoma and south to Missisippi, northwest Carolina and Virginia.

Continuing my series, Maxwell is a small town in Story County, Iowa with around 860 people. Businesses include a small grocery store, a gas station, a bank, medical clinic and funeral home. However, what I find fascinating is the Historical Society’s museum. There are two large century-old buildings plus a machine shed with farm implements. I only show one building in this photo, but the combined museum collection holds over 13,00 items from the 1800’s to date. I find that quite amazing for a small town.

About the series: Life in a small Midwestern town often means a slower pace of life, close-knit communities, and a strong connection to the land and agriculture. Residents typically have a strong sense of pride in their hometown and a friendly, neighborly attitude. Small towns usually have limited employment and entertainment options, but the tradeoff is typically a lower cost of living and a quieter, more peaceful environment. The reason I include this horse and fence combo in my Photostream is because of the signage on the fence. Licensed Shooting Preserve. A licensed shooting preserve is where they release different types of birds (not sure about other animals) and hunters come and shoot them, which I personally find rather despicable. But the point I am making here is, and what you can't see in the photo is that a few feet down the fence there is another sign that says, "don't touch, pet or feed the horses". And yet they are going to let hunters in those same fields that may or may not know how to shoot a gun. I just thought there was a lot of irony here......
