Ever since the day I laid my eyes on a photo of the Machu Picchu in middle school, it became a lifelong dream of mine to make it up here someday, and to spend an entire evening marveling at the intriguing Incan ruins as the mystic clouds brushed the Huayna Picchu.
Who knew that in January, my biggest travel dream has come true. Along with it, came even more spectacular experiences that impacted my life in the most incredible ways.
I left 1/5 of my heart in Peru, and I will be sure to make it back here someday to continue cultivating and nourishing my love for this phenomenal country.

"In the 15th century Inca Pachacutec conquered and began to rebuild the town of Ollantaytambo, constructing terraces for farming and an irrigation system. These huge terraces make up what is called the Fortress or Temple Hill. The town became home to Inca nobility. After Inca Pachacutec’s death, the town and its surroundings fell to the hands of his family and then eventually to those of Inca Manco. Inca Manco used Ollantaytambo as a retreat from the attacks of the Spanish. The fortress of Ollantaytambo, originally built for religious purposes, was the site of a major battle, one of the only successful ones against the conquistadors." theonlyperuguide.com/

Ollantaytambo is a town in southern Peru, located in the district of Ollantaytambo, province of Urubamba, Cusco region. It is approximately 60 km to the northwest of the city of Cusco, situated at an altitude of 2792 meters above sea level.
The city of Ollantaytambo is best known for its ruins, and for the spot where the Inca emperor Manco Inca was able to defeat the Spanish in a set-piece battle. The finely cut rocks and plantation terraces were very large obstacles for the Conquistadors to surpass, and the fortress was also used by Manco to conduct successful attacks on Francisco Pizarro and other Conquistadors who were based in Lima.
This is the main ruin located in the mountain above the town. This is only a small portion of it set against the snow capped mountains in the early morning light.

The ruins of Machu Picchu lie in a secluded part of Peru at 2 430 meters above sea level, near the edge of the jungle. It was a 'secret' city known only to the ruling elite and was never found by the Spanish conquistadores. Today it is one of the best preserved Inca sites, and an unparallelled sight. Machu Picchu is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was declared "one of the seven new wonders of the world" in 2007.
