I sat on a terrace near this bush and watched a hummingbird come and go, and perch. She kept singing "shee-chip", a sound I didn't know hummingbirds made. She was green-backed, white-fronted, beautiful. From my notes made at the time.
I never tire of looking at Inca stonework. It has survived for millennia in a seismically active region.

The Inca city, seen from the Puig de Santa Magdalena, in a clowdy day I could cut the photo, to highlight more the city, but in this case all things there at the foot of the mountain disappeared and this part is also charm! !

This is a great alternative for people who could not reserve to the famous Inca trail and for people wanting something a little different to have more contact with local people living on the other side of the Mountain ranges of Cusco region. This option is full of adrenaline, great views and nice walks!!!

The Inca Trail Availability is by far the most famous trek in South America and is rated by many to be in the top 5 treks in the world.
In just 26 miles (45km) it manages to combine beautiful mountain scenery, lush cloud-forest, and subtropical jungle and, of course, a stunning mix of Inca paving stones ruins and tunnels.
The final destination of the trail just cannot be beaten: Machu Picchu, the mysterious "Lost City of the Incas".

Some of the pieces in a chess set that I bought in Pisac, Peru, in 2003. The pieces represent the Incas and the Conquistadores - the Incan pawns are llamas.

THE Inca Trail
The Inca Trail Empire was the most sophisticated culture in the “New World”. By force of “divine right” and with a mastery of engineering, agriculture, economic, and most importantly, administrative skills, the Incas united warring tribes throughout the Andes under a common language and single religion, creating one of the most fabulous of ancient empires – the Tawantinsuyo.
At its height, the Inca Trail Empire had an extensive network of roads running the length and breadth of the Andes; more than 2,500 miles. These stone-paved trails connected the highland valleys with the coast.
Kind, sweet and elderly, Inca is a truly phlegmatic boxer whose main preoccupations in life are sleeping, eating and sleeping. She chewed stones as a puppy (tried to stop her but she liked it!) and ground her teeth down as a result.

The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is physically challenging but worthwhile, and the excursion is within the ability of most reasonably fit.
It is a 45-km (30 miles) hike, with 3 high passes to be crossed, one of which reaches an elevation of 4200m (13776 ft). The inca trail is often steep, and it may rain even during the dry season. The temperatures at night may fall below zero, so it is important to come prepared.
