Lesson 9 - Final Project - Work in Progress 1 and 2 - Adriana

Final Series Proposal:

We grow up looking through photo albums and hearing family stories. This is our history; in a way, it is a part of how we define ourselves in relation to our family and to the world. In this series, I seek to address family history, the passage of time, and where an individual finds her place in this time line and story.

I have a number of family photos to work with, and I'm grouping them to represent a span on the timeline. Recurrent images, as you can see: birds at rest and taking flight; ferns in various stages of opening, broken glass. Initially I thought I would use the same background color in each piece of the series, but I have reconsidered so I'll need to experiment with that a bit. Also, right now I'm using black and white images for my drafts, but the final will include color photos and collage pieces (except in cases where the original photo is b&w, though I may choose to color in some elements). I plan to have five pieces in the series--two birds, center portrait, two more birds.

I haven't posted a dye picture lately; here is orange Tunis drying on an improvised bunny cage rack under the spruce trees. Now I plan to paint some Shetland/mohair for the crock pot!

Nice use of glue and barbecue skewers. One more cork and some paint will lead to a self standing obstacle and cover.

In this pic, I've finished the purple base coat (you can see it's nice and opaque after lots of layers), and I've started painting his eyes. I like to start with the eyes because I think that really starts to bring the character and personality alive. Do you like the yellow paint? :) His nose, ears and bandages will be a different colour, so I've left them unpainted for now.

The basic skeleton. There area extra 2x4s that will be removed after the rock wall is installed and the top "rafters" of the pergola are finished.
