I love this tree. Last year they started to cut it down/back? but the young man doing the job called to those on the ground that it was impossible for him to reach the next branch so they decided to go away and try another day but to my relief they didn't come back. I hope they have no plan to cut it down.
Thank you everyone so much for sharing your quality photos which is a great way to see and keep in touch with the world from home. Designed by Gustave Eiffel and completed in 1892 from prefabricated cast iron panels imported from Belgium, the Iron House was built for the Portuguese governor of Mozambique in the capital, Maputo. Unsurprisingly, it was impossible to live in under the tropical sun. Quite why no one realised this beforehand remains a mystery.
Plan A was to have a Pepsi bottle with a bent neck.
I now know that it is impossible to bend a soda bottle by putting it in my coal fired boiler.

I've had two days of problems with my computer. I couldn't find anything as I didn't have access to my photos, music, documents, etc anymore. But I am lucky there is a computer maintainance unit in my village and now it's back in order.

This is an exercise in blending images to create an otherwise impossible image, in this case, an image of the Moon that reveals both the illuminated and the nonilluminated faces of the Moon, set against a star-filled sky. To create this image, a shot of a waxing crescent Moon was blended with a shot of a full Moon to create the appearance of a lunar orb. This was then blended with an unrelated star field shot, using an image of constellations in which our Moon is not seen.
This is a just-for-fun exercise, and is not intended to present the Moon in a realistic way. I am aware of the liberties I've taken in creating the image. Enjoy it if it strikes you.
This is a Mocker Swallowtail. It was not very cooperative, preferring to perch in areas that were nearly impossible to access. As in, finding an opening in the plants clear enough to get a shot, and then having to get down on your knees - in public.
If butterflies could laugh, I know this one had a good belly laugh over my antics in trying to get a shot. Not "the" shot we're always after - just "a" shot... any shot.

Water can go uphill! The reversing falls at St John, New Brunswick at the mouth of the St John river. Due to the rise & fall of the tide in the Bay of Fundy (one of the largest ranges in the world) at some stage in each tide the sea is higher than the river so the water rushes upstream & conversely at the ebb tide the sea is lower than the river so the water rushes downstream. An impressive sight. A similar situation to that at the Falls of Lora at Connel Ferry at Loch Etive.
I didn't put too much effort in taking photos of this total lunar eclipse. Instead I just enjoyed the event through the eyepiece of my 8" Reflector.
I have to say this event was quite a revelation and no Image can really capture the sheer beauty of it.
So in between I just took my phone and captured this image through the eyepiece as a souvenir.

It was funny watching this little squirrel ducking and dodging with the peanut in his mouth. A blue jay had been swooping down and stealing his peanuts. (they are beautiful birds, but are such bullies). He managed to escape...nut intact only to bury it in the snow. I guess he'll find it in the spring.
