satisfy the region's high labor demand. Accepted into country under
the pretenses that their presence would be temporary, once the
... immigration program was terminated in 1973, many of the remaining
Turkish laborers became isolated from their Dutch neighbors.
Differences in religion and economic standing have made assimilation
into the contemporary Dutch culture difficult. The halved fig emulates
the crescent in the Turkish flag was applied on the wall of the former

L’importateur et marchand de dry goods (tissus, mercerie et autres produits) Andrew Macfarlane fait construire ce magasin-entrepôt en 1863-1864, sur un emplacement qu’il a acquis huit ans plus tôt avec une maison-magasin et un entrepôt. Voué au commerce et à l’entreposage, le nouvel immeuble est occupé jusqu’en 1868 par Andrew Marfarlane & Company, administrés par Andrew et Robert Macfarlane.
L’immeuble servira principalement au commerce et à l’entreposage jusqu’à nos jours sans subir de transformations majeures. Possédé par John Pratt et sa succession de 1869 à 1931, il est l’hôte jusqu’en 1918 des importateurs de thés John Duncan & Company. Il est ensuite brièvement occupé par un marchand de fourrures. L’entreprise Stanway & Hutchins Limited s’en porte acquéreur en 1931 et y établit son commerce en gros de thés et de cafés pendant vingt ans. Au début des années 1950, le bâtiment abrite six occupants différents desquels se démarquent les agents manufacturiers J.S. Parkes Limited. Cette firme achète en 1956 l’immeuble qu’elle occupe seule des années 1960 à 1975. Depuis lors et encore en 2005, Cenco Import Company Limited, importateur de jouets et d’accessoires décoratifs, en est le propriétaire-occupant.

A few weeks ago, I discovered a peculiar similarity in many of the hand-painted signs in northerly Sacramento neighborhoods such as Del Paso Heights. Apparently, this sign painter has some sort of OCD about punctuating even sentence fragments on signs with periods. In just the last few days, I recognized his signature punctuation on several other signs throughout the city, even on the south side. With this batch of pics, I have begun to document this painter's work.
