ok so i had a look through my photos from the farns (eventually!) last night and i thought i better get this out the way early doors!
classic / iconic (did i hear someone say cliché?) – puffin with sand eels shot!
it had just started raining so this added something i think
i was laughing with brian (bojangles_1953) the other night saying by the time i managed to post anything everyone would be puffined-out – and he was saying i’d have to post a photo of one eating a bag of chips and mushy peas to make it stand out!!
there was a lot of puffins, and there was a lot of sand eels! – i shall resist the urge to post hundreds and hundreds – and try and look for something a bit original i promise!

Probably the most ICONIC views in Brugge, the city where I was born.
View from the Rozenhoedkaai, looking up at the Belfry, standing tall on the Market-square and one of Brugge’s three proud towers seen from all around.
LOL, I could also have called this: Blue skies?
More then along the different canals and The Blind Donkey street...
Have a wonderful day, filled with love and beauty, M, (*_*)

My husband Tom died today soon after they switched the machine off as despite getting rid of the infection his heart still wasn't responding. The doctors and nurses gave him excellent care and tried their very best to save him but in the end the time had come to enable him to die as comfortably as possible. I am receiving good support from local people and Tom's family. Even the senior partner from his last firm came at a moment's notice yesterday to drive me to the hospital (at least half an hours journey) when the doctors asked me to go in for face to face talk with them.
Tom went on some icon writing workshops from time to time some years ago using traditional methods and images passed down through the centuries in the Orthodox Church.
Thank you all so much for sharing your quality photos which is a great way to see and keep in touch with the world from home. Also for your kind comments and favours which are much valued.
I am not able to take on any more members to follow or to post to groups. I prefer not to receive invites to groups.
Looking back from the cliff’s edge of the Golden Gate Strait is an iconic bridge, recognizable around the world.

I took this photo of Notre Dame cathedral a few years ago, and certainly have fond memories of this amazing structure.
A wild and windy day to remember ambling around Ulva Island, drinking in the native wildlife. It was unreal how little the wildlife seemed to care about you so long as you weren’t too noisey and took your time. Stumbling across this Kiwi was a bit of a stroke of luck with it blending in almost perfectly with the underbrush. In fact, two trees knocking together in the high winds turned our attention to an unspectacular section to the side of the path and this little fella was poking around right there. Talk about the perfect storm!
I didn’t realise until I went to Stewart Island that our native Kiwi actually has five different subspecies. The Tokoeka, like this one, has somewhat of a stronghold on Stewart Island with around 15,000 individuals. Kiwis are usually nocturnal, but some Stewart Island birds and chicks forage by day which made this interaction with our national icon that much more special.
Their small eyes apparently provide decent night vision but their sense of smell is extremely well-developed with both nostrils and sensory pits located towards the tip of their long beak to help them locate prey. They hunt by literally poking around with their long beak, plunging it into the ground at a fairly rapid rate, snuffling like a hedgehog the whole time. I don’t know exactly what I expected but I found this pretty amusing!
