International visitors from Latin America and the Caribbean met on August 22 with Department officials to discuss "Citizen Security in the Americas." The visitors are in the United States on a three-week exchange program to examine best practices for community-based approaches to violence prevention.
In celebration of the #WomenHistoryMonth, #IVLPAlumni Khun Wannee, Haemutai, Nurse at the Center for Children with Autism in Khon Kaen, and Khun Nalutporn Krairiksh, Editor of www.thisable.me, shared their experience with the team at Steps with Theera. This coffee shop and vocational training center supports people with learning differences transition to sustainable employment opportunities and living fulfilling lives. It promotes skills for life, skills for employment and skills for independence. What a great business model!

The visitors were so excited to sit in the judges chairs at the bench and hold the gavel in their hands. Not one of them declined the opportunity! Each one had a different attitude when holding the gavel: serious, thoughtful, playful. This photo was taken after all had taken a turn, we can still see them pondering what might be possible in their own lives.

On October 22, more than 200 USG alumni of IVLP, YES, PELI, TEA, U-Grad and English Access exchange programs and civil society representatives attended 6th annual reunion of AJK Chapter of PUAN through the support of U.S. Mission in Pakistan. The Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s Acting President and Legislative Assembly AJK’s Speaker, Honorable Shah Ghulam Qadir, USG IVLP alumnus, Inspector General of Police and Additional Chief Secretary participated in the reunion. Through video-message, the U.S. Embassy’s Country Cultural Attaché, Dr. Daniel Mattern appreciated the efforts of alumni and their work to strengthen the people to people ties between Pakistan and the United States. Chargé d’Affaires Michael Heath delivered the keynote speech on “Strengthening Indo-Pacific Partnership” at the first-ever Thai alumni gathering of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) on Friday, March 26 at C asean Ratchada, Bangkok.
In celebration of the 80th anniversary of the IVLP, the U.S. Department of State’s flagship professional exchange program, the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok partnered with the Foundation for Institute of Social Enterprise Development (FINSEDT) to organize a series of IVLP alumni gathering activities this year. For the past 80 years, the IVLP has connected current and emerging leaders from around the world to the U.S. and has grown to include over 225,000 alumni.
