Through short-term visits to the United States, current and emerging foreign leaders in a variety of fields experience this country firsthand and cultivate lasting relationships with their American counterparts. Professional meetings reflect the participants’ professional interests and support the foreign policy goals of the United States.

 

Each year nearly 5,000 International Visitors come to the U.S. on the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). More than 200,000 International Visitors have engaged with Americans through the IVLP, including more than 500 current or former Chiefs of State or Heads of Government.

In celebration of the #WomenHistoryMonth, #IVLPAlumni Khun Wannee, Haemutai, Nurse at the Center for Children with Autism in Khon Kaen, and Khun Nalutporn Krairiksh, Editor of www.thisable.me, shared their experience with the team at Steps with Theera. This coffee shop and vocational training center supports people with learning differences transition to sustainable employment opportunities and living fulfilling lives. It promotes skills for life, skills for employment and skills for independence. What a great business model!

Multiregional IVLP delegates feeling accomplishment after serving dinner with staff at South Wilmington Street Men‚ Shelter in Raleigh, NC. This photo, with arms linked and big happy grins, lets us know that the service at the shelter was truly meaningful to this group. They embraced with enthusiasm the formerly homeless supervisor after learning how he had turned his life around, and he credited the shelter with saving his life‚ it was a very special moment to witness.

The Fulbright Program is the United States' flagship foreign exchange program, and

this year celebrates its 70th anniversary in Australia. Consul General Rachel Cooke hosted a reception in honor of Fulbright, attended by Fulbright Scholars and International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) alumni.

 

The Honorable Julie Bishop MP presented the Inaugural Eleanor Roosevelt Fulbright Awards to 2019 Scholars Holly Ransom and Alice Gardoll. Congratulations to both winners and we wish you all the best.

International visitors from Latin America and the Caribbean met on August 22 with Department officials to discuss "Citizen Security in the Americas." The visitors are in the United States on a three-week exchange program to examine best practices for community-based approaches to violence prevention.
