Chargé d’Affaires Christopher J. Lamora presented certificates to alumni of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) on April 16, 2019 at the U.S. Embassy in Accra-Ghana.

 

The International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) is the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional exchange program. Through short-term visits to the United States, current and emerging foreign leaders in a variety of fields experience this country firsthand and cultivate lasting relationships with their American counterparts. Professional meetings reflect the participants’ professional interests and support the foreign policy goals of the United States.

 

Each year nearly 5,000 International Visitors come to the U.S. on the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). More than 200,000 International Visitors have engaged with Americans through the IVLP, including more than 500 current or former Chiefs of State or Heads of Government.

Recognizing that investing in women-owned small and medium enterprises (SMEs) is one of the best ways to accelerate economic and social growth, the U.S. Department of State brought 34 women entrepreneurs to the United States to develop business networks with their U.S. colleagues on the IVLP Women’s Entrepreneurship in the Americas (WEAmericas).

Ms. Perez works with LGBT gender-based violence. She was extremely excited to learn about the ruling that DOMA was unconstitutional!

Indhira Bobadilla is a professor at the Universidad Pedro Nacional in the Dominican Republic. She hopes to find local solutions to issues of gender-based violence.

This alumni group that has been meeting for the past 10 years in different participant countries. This reunion will include a meeting on the Hill to share the impact of their IVLP programs.

Members of the International Visitor Leadership Program visit the headquarters of the Texas Military Forces on Oct. 31, 2011. Spain, Hungary, the Slovak Republic, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom and the Republic of Macedonia were all represented in the program, the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional exchange program. Launched in 1940, the ILVP is a professional exchange program that seeks to build mutual understanding between the U.S. and other nations through carefully designed short-term visits to the U.S. for current and emerging foreign leaders.
