It is clear that the summer of 2014 is slipping away. We're getting cold nights and cool, damp days. The fawns are losing their spots and a black bear recently showed up at the feeders. Yikes! But, according to the calendar, it's still summer. I, for one, intend to drink it in, right down to the dregs.
P.S. I'm hoping someone will help me identify this flower. It was planted here before I moved in and I have no idea what it is.
P.S. 2 -Thanks to all who tried to help me identify this plant. I have been able to find the plant tag that was left here by the previous owner. The flower is Ligularia dentata Desdemona, a variety of Ragwort. Click this link to see photos of the whole plant.

Well, almost on Sept. 28, 2025!
A teneral Damselfly I found today at Wollaton Park, not sure on species, thinking Ischnura elegans. This one was a great subject, almost looks like it was posing for a portrait.
This was a 13 image focus stack, I used my Canon 1000D and shot using JPEGS, ISO 200, aperture F/5.6 and a 1/160 shutter speed. I used a diffused flash in ETTL mode.
Zooooommmmm
It was one of those Winter days when a heavy fog combines with a hard frost to turn the whole landscape white....Cold and beautiful!
It's a very tasty Belgian ale Leffe. Vas'ka doesn't like any alcohol smell, but this time he was curious.
Thank you all for visits, faves and comments!
It was interesting watching a flock of well over a hundred of these redpolls foraging on the field weeds, then suddenly swirling into the air and seconds later returning to almost the same spot. Possibly the heavy winds of 40 to 60 km per hour contributed to this behaviour.
Thank you for viewing, always appreciated.
Taking the sound board to the upper levels, the song Turn it Up by Samantha Fish for some rock blues.... www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgmBKFJXdtE
Every winter I forget summer. I forget the smells in the air. The feeling of warm air on my skin. Even the bugs. It all goes away and when summer comes back it feels fresh every time.
It's the first of June. Three months of summer still left to enjoy. After that I forget what this beautiful season is like. I hope that this photo can help me remember during the dark, long winter months.

Oh Lord it's hard to be humble
When you're perfect in every way
I can't wait to look in the mirror
Cause I get better looking each day
To know me is to love me
I must be a hell of a man
Oh Lord It's hard to be humble,
But I'm doing the best that I can
Wisconsin and Southern's Milwaukee Road heritage SD70ACe had just emerged from the paint shop and was awaiting the graphics to be applied at Horicon.
Well, no. It was just a BNSF motor awaiting the swoosh to be applied.
But it would have been nice.
Make It Rain - Ed Sheeran
When the sins of my father
Weigh down in my soul
And the pain of my mother
Will not let me go
Well I know there can come fire from the sky
To refine the purest of kings
And even though
I know this fire brings me pain
Even so
And just the same
Make it rain
Make it rain down low
Make it rain
Oh make it rain
Make it rain
Make it rain down low
Make it rain
Make it rain
The seed needs the water
Before it grows out of the ground
But it just keeps on getting hard
And the hunger more profound
Well I know there can come tears from the eye
But they may as well be in vain
Even though
I know these tears come with pain
Even so
And just the same
Make it rain
Make it rain down low
Make it rain
Oh make it rain
Make it rain
Make it rain down low
Just make it rain
Make it rain
It's about 2 months since I last picked up my camera and a combination of time, energy and motivation seem to be conspiring against me at the moment. With nothing new to process and upload, it's back to the archives and a shot from a beautifully peaceful morning up at Buttermere back in March
A selection of my images are now available to purchase at James Bell's site here
It was just a very ordinary walk in the same Helsinki suburb surroundings, still with patches of ice here and there, but sun already was shining warmer and friendlier than a couple of weeks ago. And then behind a turn of the path opened a view over a little bay, and sunlight fell on the tops of last year dropworts in so marvelous angle that all the scene was flooded with light... I deliberately let the flare come into the photo, because it reveals the feeling from that moment like fairies would be dancing in the branches and chasing the winter away. :-)
