Thank you very much for your comments and faves, regretfully, I am finding it increasingly difficult to reply to your comments, because of my very limited time on the internet, due to constant power interruptions in South Africa. I do read and appreciate every one of them! Thanks again!!
It was a hot day in Brightlingsea. The sun was close to setting. A woman relaxes under her umbrella.
It's rainy and cold on the Grand Canal. All the cafes of summer are closed. All the tourists have gone to warmer climes. But Venice remains it's timeless self.
it was -39 Celsius (-38.2 Fahrenheit) with the wind chill when this photo was taken late this morning

The Sword-billed Hummingbird is a charismatic species from Andean South America. It is found from Venezuela and Colombia in the north to Bolivia in the south. The species belongs to a monotypic genus, Ensifera, and is quite different from all other hummingbirds; metallic green and bronzed overall, with a black bill that is slightly upcurved and longer than the body length. This is the only bird species with a bill length that exceeds the body length. When seen perched, the species usually holds its bill quite upright, presumably because of balance issues stemming from this long and relatively heavy structure.

For me one of the most amazing hummingbirds of Ecuador! Taken at the amazing Zuro Loma Reserve.
Thanks a lot for your visits, comments, faves, invites, etc. Very much appreciated!

Where it all started, or where you can find out how it started.
There are stories that should not be forgotten... Well, perhaps we should never forget. From memories, from the past and from our history we learn. Today I begin to record the result of my investigations. A task that has taken me a year, a long year of wandering between the shelves of the Carnelian Archive, where all the Fairlands chronicles are kept. The dust, the smell of leather, paper and history have been my faithful companions in this search, which is now over. It was something personal, yes. It has already been lost in time and in the silence of my relatives over the years, but I needed to know the truth. And the truth, like a polished diamond with countless faces, is not as simple as they imagined. There is no good or bad, but a mixture of the two whose balance maintains the Universe. Anyway, this is not the time to ramble. I think I should pick up the scattered fragments, hinted at in these flickr posts, and tell the whole story, though maybe not the whole truth, who knows....
It had been a grey day with a darkening sky as daylight was coming to an end. Having spotted this solitary Roe Deer in the grasses at Burnt Common I decided to creep round a circle of shrubs to have a better view of her. Remarkably she was still there and for a brief moment the winter sun gave a warm glow to this beautiful doe amidst the delicate grasses and slender Silver Birch.
Thank you all for your kind responses.

It is thought that this ancient tree - an oak planted during the reign of Henry Vlll - inspired the legendary character Treebeard in JRR Tolkien's Lord Of The Rings. Tolkien lived nearby and would walk these woods sparking his imagination to write his stories.
Treebeard was a giant tree that could walk and talk in Tolkien's novel. Such a tree was considered an Ent, and there were other Ents in Lord Of The Rings too.
The tree is natural and has not been adapted which makes it even more amazing.
“It’s too late. I’ve made excuses for you for years. None of my friends can understand why I even talk to you. You and your precious little Death Eater friends ... You’ve chosen your way, I’ve chosen mine.”
— J.K. Rowling

A Painted Stork (Mycteria leucocephala) was framed from up close flying by to a new destiny while other members of the stork family were busy in search of fishes in the backdrop. The bokeh here is dreamy- butter smooth and the position of the stork is perfect for a handsome flight portrait. Pics was taken from Bharatpur, Rajasthan, India.
