A package of 3 or 4 of these marinated mackerel, egg and sushi (seasoned) rice wrapped in paper-thin kelp will cost a few 100 yen nowadays; less at the end of the business day when grocers mark down the items that must be sold by the close of the shop.

I just bought a Powershot G12, and wanted to check out how it handles noise with increasing ISO settings.
So here is a collage of 16 photos, taken from minimum ISO 80 to maximum ISO 3200.
(I skipped the ISO 100 setting to get an even number of shots)
The noise from G12 looks much better than my old G10. I think the G12 has at least an 2 stops advantage over the G10. Also, when the G12 starts to get noise, the pixel noise looks much better than it does on the G10.
Judging from this test, it looks like up to ISO 1600 is usable, and even above that can be used if the alternative is a smeared picture dt long exposure time.
The pictures are all taken at widest aperture, f/2.8.
The camera was hand-held, but looks like the image stabilization still handled the long exposure time @ ISO 80. Exposure time varied from 1/2sec @ ISO 80 to 1/100sec at ISO 3200.

Celebrating the holidays with festive music and holiday songs. Holiday Pops in the Heartland truly is a community affair, as the ISO is joined by the Bloomington-Normal Youth Symphony, Springfield Youth Performance Group, and the Twin Cities Ballet Company. But that's not all! The ISO will perform the music to Chris van Allsburg's Polar Express featuring Bass Baritone Robert Cantrell. Great fun for the entire family, young and old! Performed Friday, December 20, 2019 at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts, Bloomington, IL. Photo by David Fitch.

I heard tell that the latest firmware upgrade from Nikon had some unpublished aid in high ISO noise. I have no idea if it's true or not, so used the rather horrible lighting in my apartment to try it out.
Moreover, I dug up a TC14e teleconverter that my dad left in a box and slapped that on the 70-200mm f/2.8, and had some no-light, hand-held fun.
