I awakened this morning to the news that 50 of my fellow Americans had been gunned down and killed (and another 53 injured) by a lone gunman at the PULSE bar in Orlando, Florida.
The following is already know: He was a young American man of Pakistani descent, born in the City of New York and now living in a Florida town about a two hour drive away from where he drove to systematically kill as many people as he could. Several minutes into his murder spree , he called police and told them that he was pledging his allegiance to the leader of ISIS (Isil). Recently he had reportedly become enraged in his (father's presence), when he saw two men kissing one another in Miami, Florida. His wife, from whom he was divorced seven years ago, tells authorities he was violent towards her. He reportedly had one son. He has expressed sympathy for the radical muslim sector and praised former terrorists.
He went into the predominately gay club at approximately 2:00 a.m. this morning, apparently armed with an assault type rifle and a hand gun. He shot his way past the personnel at the door and proceeded to kill at least fifty persons and injury at least 53 other, several of whom remain in critical condition.
My thought, prayers and best wishes go out to the victims, their families, the LGBT Community of Orlando, Florida and to all who are or will be impacted by this senseless Terrorism Murder.
We stand united against such violence! We stand with all of our citizens, regardless of their race, religion, gender, national origin, or sexual persuasion. We will not be intimidated!!

Once in Palmyra, the Tetrapylon was erected at the end of the third century. Yes, 1800 years ago.
It has seen everything from the invention of woodblock printing to the use of 4G cellphones.
Then ISIL came. And at the dawn of 2017, they exploded it.

A Syrian Family Inside Her Tent In Qushtapa Refugee Camp, Erbil, Kurdistan, Iraq.
I first met them one year ago, in the same camp. They were just arriving, displaced by El Hassad army bombings on their syrian village. They just lived under a tent, without nothing and they just had some twins babies. Now they have built concrete walls around their tent, have TV, electricity... They will remain in this camp for years and years.The twins are called Hawler (the name of Kurdistan capitale in kurdish) and Kurdistan. Everything is overpriced in the camp and they spend huge amount of money just to feed the babies. Now, the father is in charge of the tea distribution in the camp. A serious job for those refugees. They are more than 1 million like them in Kurdistan.
This monumental arch, patient as it is, waited for about 18 centuries before I could visit it.
It already felt special.
But what about now?
Now that it's not here standing any more, destroyed (exploded) by ISIL, back in 2015?

The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF; French: Aviation royale canadienne, ARC) is the air force of Canada. Its role is to "provide the Canadian Forces with relevant, responsive and effective airpower".[3] The RCAF is one of three environmental commands within the unified Canadian Armed Forces. As of 2013, the Royal Canadian Air Force consists of 14,500 Regular Force and 2,600 Primary Reserve personnel, supported by 2,500 civilians, and operates 258 manned aircraft and 9 unmanned aerial vehicles.[1][4] Lieutenant-General Al Meinzinger is the current Commander of the Royal Canadian Air Force and Chief of the Air Force Staff.[5]
The Royal Canadian Air Force is responsible for all aircraft operations of the Canadian Forces, enforcing the security of Canada's airspace and providing aircraft to support the missions of the Royal Canadian Navy and the Canadian Army. The RCAF is a partner with the United States Air Force in protecting continental airspace under the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). The RCAF also provides all primary air resources to and is responsible for the National Search and Rescue Program.
The RCAF traces its history to the Canadian Air Force, which was formed in 1920. The Canadian Air Force was granted royal sanction in 1924 by King George V to form the Royal Canadian Air Force. In 1968, the RCAF was amalgamated with the Royal Canadian Navy and the Canadian Army, as part of the unification of the Canadian Forces. Air units were split between several different commands: Air Defence Command (interceptors), Air Transport Command (airlift, search and rescue), Mobile Command (tactical fighters, helicopters), Maritime Command (anti-submarine warfare, maritime patrol), as well as Training Command.
In 1975, some commands were dissolved (ADC, ATC, TC), and all air units were placed under a new environmental command called simply Air Command (AIRCOM). Air Command reverted to its historic name of "Royal Canadian Air Force" in August 2011.[6] The Royal Canadian Air Force has served in the Second World War, the Korean War, the Persian Gulf War, as well as several United Nations peacekeeping missions and NATO operations. As a NATO member, the force maintained a presence in Europe during the second half of the 20th century.
