Vista de l'església romànica de Sant Joan d'Isil, just aigues avall del poble d'Isil, al Pallars Sobirà. Del hipotetic monestir només en resta l'església romànica triabsidial. De fet, que fos originariament un monestir sembla foça dubtós. Només es segur que fou parroquia ja al s. XII.
La seva situació just sobre la Noguera Pallaresa és impressionant, amb la capçalera triabsidial banyada per les remogudes aigues del riu. No crec que enlloc pogueu veure una altra església romànica tan arran d'un riu.
Actualment forma part del cementiri d'Isil.

The XII Century romanesque church of St. Joan d'Isil is rather unique. This quite big church has it's three apses built right in the fierce mountain Noguera Pallaresa river. I don't know of any other romanesque (or any other) church built almost inside a river, and specially such a savage river. It's known that several times the apses had been rebuilt.
Now the church still serves as part of Isil village cementery.

He once had a dream of stars, dancing upon a rippled water's surface. Black waves crashed against a dark shoreline and the rhythmic waves were the only thing to be heard. It was calm and peaceful. Slowly he made his way into the ocean, the waves welcomed him like an old friend as he dove into the cool water. Deep down, where there was no light from the moon. However, it wasn't dark. A beautiful landscape awaited him, like he had never seen it before. Bioluminescent plankton illuminated the ocean floor and the water around him. His movements left shiny trails of blue and green behind. There were glowing plants of yellow, blue and green, even purple. Gently they waved back and forth as if they wanted to show him the way, while swarms of gleaming fish surrounded him. He was so captivated by the beauty before him and all these wonders of life around him, that he almost forgot to breathe. Ready to make his way back to the surface to catch his breath, he realized that a swarm of jellyfish covered the entire surface like a huge cloud. While his air was running thin, he tried to find another way out, but there was none.
He remembered the dream so clear like a memory. Just like the persons response to his story.
"I will come and save you from the jellyfish", they said.
So he waited patiently by the jellyfish, for them to come and find him.

Il nuraghe (1.600 -1300 a.C.), inserito nella periferia settentrionale di Isili, si caratterizza soprattutto per la sua magnifica tholos, che con un'altezza di 11,80 metri, attualmente risulta essere quella più elevata di tutta la Sardegna nuragica.

Da notare il pertugio che costituisce l’apertura, la cui sagoma somiglia a quella della parte centrale e settentrionale della Sardegna!
Il nuraghe (1.600 -1300 a.C.) si trova nella campagna a pochi chilometri a nord-est dell'abitato di Isili. La costruzione si caratterizza per la presenza di una tholos intatta e imponente che presenta caratteristiche simili a quella presente nel vicino e più famoso Is Paras ma si differenzia da quest'ultimo perchè ovale. Per accedere al nuraghe occorre calarsi da un pertugio realizzato artificiosamente in alto, in quanto l'ingresso orginario risulta essere obliterato dai crolli e dai sedimenti. Attualmente l'apertura creata ex novo risulta essere pericolante in quanto oggetto di continui crolli.
La sepoltura (3300-2500 a.C.) si trova in un’area ambientale e paesaggistica molto suggestiva. Per accedervi bisogna percorrere la strada statale 128, nel tratto che collega gli abitati di Isili e Nurallao. All’altezza del km 50,200, poco prima del viadotto sul lago Is Barrocus, si svolta a destra seguendo le indicazioni per le falesie, tra cui spicca quella denominata “Scala Urania”, diventata un’agognata meta degli arrampicatori sportivi. Terminata la ripida discesa asfaltata, dopo poco di 200 metri, in vista al ponte ferroviario, si consiglia di parcheggiare l’automobile in un ampio sterrato. Successivamente si percorre a piedi per circa 500 metri la strada sterrata, godendosi il panorama sul prospiciente lago e, superato un ponticello, bisogna imboccare sulla destra un sentiero, stando attenti a richiudere un cancello. Da questo punto si procede per circa 500 metri cercando di orientarsi prendendo come punto di riferimento la parete rocciosa striata di blu, che si innalza sulla sinistra, dove venne scavata la domus de janas.
