Manarola is a small town, a frazione of the comune of Riomaggiore, in the province of La Spezia, Liguria, northern Italy. It is the second-smallest of the famous Cinque Terre towns frequented by tourists, with a population of 353. We spent there beautiful day in September 2018.
Or is it??? My smile is my smile but lately it has been a big mask to hide RL pain from really stressful event outside of SL. Sadly someone anonymously posted to a notorious website which deals with gossip about SL. I was the target of this person, I use that term loosely, stating my Flickr account was f***ing boring and I should learn how to use poses and other hurtful terms. I started this account as an escape and therapy from the very long lockdowns my home city of Melbourne Australia had to endure. I have learnt many techniques over the past 2 years of posting every day. Clearly that wasn't good enough for this anonymous critic. Sadly this critique has made me feel suicidal and not wanting to continue with this. I just hope that anonymous poster is happy, because I am not.
A cactus (plural: cacti) is a member of the plant family Cactaceae, a family comprising about 127 genera with some 1750 known species of the order Caryophyllales. The word "cactus" derives, through Latin, from the Ancient Greek κάκτος, kaktos, Cacti occur in a wide range of shapes and sizes. Most cacti live in habitats subject to at least some drought. Many live in extremely dry environments, even being found in the Atacama Desert, one of the driest places on earth. Cacti show many adaptations to conserve water. Almost all cacti are succulents, meaning they have thickened, fleshy parts adapted to store water. Cacti are native to the Americas, ranging from Patagonia in the south to parts of western Canada in the north.
It's been in the news: "This is the first big partial eclipse to happen in the UK since 1999, and the next one isn't until August 2026, so this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity." - So all gear set up and waiting - hoping for a glimpse of that "once-in-a-generation" event...
BUT the weather didn't play by the rules where I live: Muddy skiess all morning... No sun to be seen, let alone the moon trying to cover it up...
Still, with all the gear in place, when the clouds went I decided to do a shot of the sun (background image - HDR'ed) and "post-processed" my moon in with Photoshop afterwards.
Ha: If you cannot rely on UK clear skies, create your own eclipse! ;-)

And life is grand.
And I will say this at the risk of falling from favor
with those of you
who have appointed yourselves to expect us to say
something darker.
And love is real.
And though I realize this is not a deep observation
to those of you
who find it necessary to conceal love
or obscure it as is the fashion.
And life is grand.
And I will say this at the risk of falling from favor
with those of you
who have appointed yourselves to expect us to say

He is mostly observed in the mountains and the Atlantic Coast. For the first time I saw him in the fields near my house, a migrant for sure...
Je pense qu'il s'agit d'un juvénile!
This is a big, colourful duck, bigger than a mallard but smaller than a goose. Both sexes have a dark green head and neck, a chestnut belly stripe and a red bill. (RSPB)
What is That is the theme for Macro Mondays February 25th.

I must be watching too much Star Trek!
My husband ordered a bunch of electronic supplies online and when they arrived, I was almost as excited as he was, because they are so cool to photograph.
In case any of you couldn't tell by my title, these are called resistors.
Life is a miracle, in all its forms.
Unstoppable, astoundingly creative, resilient but also so fragile and vulnerable.
We are its protectors and stewards.

Howard Jones - What Is Love
www.youtube.com/watch?v=w34vnz_LEX4
I love you whether or not you love me
I love you even if you think that I don't
Sometimes I find you doubt my love for you, but I don't mind
Why should I mind, why should I mind
What is Love anyway, does anybody love anybody anyway
What is Love anyway, does anybody love anybody anyway
Can anybody love anyone so much that they will never fear
Never worry never be sad
The answer is they cannot love this much nobody can
This is why I don't mind you doubting
And maybe love is letting people be just what they want to be
The door always must be left unlocked
To love when circumstance may lead someone away from you
And not to spend the time just doubting
There is a place in you
where there is perfect peace.
There is a place in you
where nothing is impossible.

What better to do on a cold wintry rainy day ... have some fun with this week's Monday Macro theme of abstract "What Is That"
The last of the fun macros taken today ... I think this last one will be my post for the group.

Spot the two birds :)
For a change, this is a new (outside!) photo, taken just a few days ago at the wonderful Britzer Garten, one of Berlin's biggest and most beautiful public parks (please check my album for more "Britz bliss", if you like).
For better dynamic range, I've used exposure bracketing (three images), pre-processed the images in DXO PhotoLab (sharpness and DeepPrime denoising only), from which I directly went into HDR Efex Pro to combine the images. I'm trying to get away from the annual Adobe subscription, and combining images from an exposure bracketing series in HDR Efex instead of Lightroom is one step into that direction. Unfortunately, whenever I think I can finally leave Adobe behind for good they come up with improvements such as the new "supersize" function (now also available in LR), a ton of new presets for LR, and other interesting stuff (and I'm still used to the LR/PS workflow, and the layers in PS). Well, maybe I'll be ready next year ;)
Extra sliding was done in Color Efex, where I added some "Brilliance and Warmth" and a tiny bit of "Contrast Color Range".
Happy Sliders Sunday, Everyone, stay safe and have a nice week ahead!
This is taken at Hood River, Oregon, looking across the Columbia River. The mountains (large hills actually -- but they rise almost 2,000 ft above the water, are on the Washington State side of the river. DSC_5081.jpg

This image shows how life is harsh for both predator and prey. This male lion was feeding at a kill site in the Masai Mara national reserve on my 2019 trip. There was a large pride present with lions of all ages at the scene. We hung around for some time to watch breakfast being consumed before we headed back to camp to have our own.
Note the flies present on the lion. Everything plays its role in our ecosystems and should be valued as a result.

Salar de Talar is a large salt flat located in the high puna of northern Chilean Andes, at an altitude of 3,950 m. It is part of a series of salt lakes and salt flats located at the foothills of a chain of volcanoes stretching along the eastern side of the much greater Salar de Atacama. The salty flat is bordered on the west by Caichinque and on the east by Cerro Medano, is a mountain with striking shades of grey and brown, which contrast nicely with the sparkling white of the salt flat's surface. On top of that, colourful ponds fringe its shores. Salar de Talar is a part of the Central Andean dry puna ecoregion, which in this zone is characterized by tussock grass vegetation.
