The notion or sight of barbed wire (colloquially known as the Devilâs Rope) carries many connotations - protection, oppression, captivity, pain, etc. The sight of even a remnant can be a powerful catalyst to stir the emotions and conjure a variety of images in the mind.
This scene is part of the old Churnet valley railway line between Oakamoor and Alton, one a thriving industrial lifeline but long abandoned and reclaimed by nature. Why it was once fenced off with barbed wire I donât know, but, as an image, I found it fascinating and evocative - sitting in a lovely light it just had to be photographed and given some personal interpretation.
Personal interpretation of the lonely tree subject. You never get tired of traveling through Alentejo!
I replaced it by a slightly different composition, with some extra space around the branches. I still have doubts about this being better than a tight composition, but most negative critiques focused on that point, so...
My best guess and interpretation is that the blue decagon in the center surrounded by the yellow ring is the sun. The yellow lines are the sunrays. There are eight rectangles distributed around the sun which should be the eight planets of the solar system excluding Pluto. Whether Pluto is a planet or not is a matter of debate and dispute. So there are eight planets depicted not nine.
This is the ceiling of the circular water fountain seen below. The structure serves to protect the worshipers (performing the compulsory washing of the face, the forearm, the feet, and wetting part of the head) from the sun, rain, and snow. The cord descending from the center connects to an electric bulb for illumination.
See my photo of the fountain in the comments.
The Snow Roads (www.visitcairngorms.com/inspire-me/snowroads/ ) Scenic Route is a 144-km (90-mile) journey which takes you from the picturesque market town of Blairgowrie to the traditional Highland town of Grantown-on-Spey. The route traverses the highest public road in Britain taking you through some of the most outstanding landscapes in the eastern Cairngorms. The road links the communities of Braemar, Ballater and Tomintoul with a range of natural and cultural attractions. Three stunning Scenic Route Installations provide new opportunities to stop and explore this wild and beautiful highland countryside. A Cairngorms photo-post is also located at each installation to allow you to capture changes in the landscape. With such a range of activities for families, explorers and sightseers alike, take your time to relax with an overnight stay or two in your choice of accommodation along the way and stop at one of the many cafes and restaurants to sample some highland hospitality. Travel the scenic way on the Snow Roads North or South with the opportunity to link to many other areas in Scotland including Royal Deeside, the Malt Whisky Trail or the North Coast 500. The Snow Roads are slow roads. Take your time to enjoy the views, villages and attractions along the route. You will experience steep hills, âblindâ summits, tight bends and single-track roads in part so be sure to drive with care and courtesy. On narrow sections, please be aware of other drivers and use passing places to allow others to go by safely and continue on their journey. www.visitcairngorms.com/plan-your-visit/about-the-cairngo...

A typical Yorkshire Dales' view, with old trees, the sheep and the ever ongoing dry-stone walls drawing dark dividing lines through the land.
The light was golden, the air crisp and clear, I love Winter.
It reminds me of the paintings of one of the Brueghel's.
Since it was taken with 400 asa film, I reduced the grain for once, however the main reason was to get that 'paint' effect that the famous Flemish painter's family BREUGHEL and others put in their paintings. This was how I saw it, a bright sky and some mystery in the trees, the cold wind gently blurring my tear-filled eyes.
This image is an artistic interpretation.
Have a great day and thanx, M, (*_*)

Hello everybody!
How are you doing out there. COVID has us all under control at the moment. But I don't want to grumble because I'm actually doing quite well. I can't say much about this photo here. I took the shot in Lisbon a few years ago. For me it belongs to the category cool, but I don't know exactly why. But it does not matter either.
The view remains stuck and there is a lot to discover.
Maybe you like it too.

Flying in your dreams is probably one of the most enjoyable dreams you can have in a long list of dreams. It symbolizes good things. Freedom, control, power, happiness. However, there are certain flying dreams that can mean the opposite. Just as most other dreams, pay attention to how you were feeling in the dream. Were you in control, did you continue to fall, were you flying upward, downward? All of these small details mean something in your dream.

A photographic interpretation of Maxime Leforestier's song "Like a tree in the city"
Like a tree in the city
I was born in concrete
Stuck between two houses
Homeless homeless
Like a tree in the city
Like a tree in the city
I grew up far from the forest
Where my forest brothers
Founded a family
Like a tree in the city
Between concrete and bitumen
To push I struggle
But my branches fly low
So close to the cars that smoke
Between concrete and bitumen
Like a tree in the city
I have the smoke from the factories
For prison, and my roots
We cover them with gates
Like a tree in the city
Like a tree in the city
I have songs on my sheets
Which will fly away under the eye
From your servile windows
Like a tree in the city
Between concrete and bitumen
I will be torn from the streets
To build where I lived
Posthumous honor parking lots
Between concrete and bitumen
Like a tree in the city
Friend, do after my death
Barricades of my body
And the fire of my twigs
Like a tree in the city
Looking at different interpretations of this scene, trying to hone in on what I want it to be.
I don't know why I keep lamenting the loss of Kodak's HIE, and thinking of Rollei IR as a weak facsimile. I've realized something: the Rollei film is more versatile, sharper, far more capable of preserving high value detail, and with a bit of careful effort, it can produce images similar to what HIE gives. I've compared this photo to the one I made last week (flic.kr/p/2m97GP9) using a very old roll of HIE, and this image is in many ways superior to the one made with HIE. I guess things aren't so bad after all. ;-)
This round is made with the Kodak Medalist II and Rollei IR 400, processed in Xtol.
This was a 5 minute exposure at f16.
The Coso Petroglyphs have been subject to various interpretations as to their meaning and function. One perspective argues that the drawings are metaphoric images correlated with individual shamanic vision quests. Alternatively it has been argued that they are part of a hunting religion that included increase rites and were associated with a sheep cult ceremonial complex.[3][4] However these alternative explanations might be somewhat complementary in that the medicine persons could have been the artisans but their messages might have often been associated with religious observances centering on the veneration of bighorn sheep.[5]
In addition to the extant petroglyph rock art, the Coso People carried out extensive working of obsidian tools and other 'manufacturing.' There is considerable archaeological evidence substantiating trade of these products between the Coso People and other Indigenous peoples of the Americas and Native American tribes.[6] For example, distant trade with the southern Californian Pacific coast Chumash People is confirmed by archaeological recovery from California sites in San Luis Obispo County, California[7] and other coastal indigenous peoples' sites.
Big and Little Petroglyph Canyons are situated on property of the China Lake Naval Air Weapons Station. The two canyons are a designated U.S. National Historic Landmark. In 2001, they were incorporated into a larger National Historic Landmark District, called the Coso Rock Art District.[8]
In 2014, the Ridgecrest Petroglyph Festival was created as an annual celebration and showcase the petroglyphs located in the two canyons.

This is a slightly stylized image of the Oculus in lower Manhattan. The Oculus is a part of the World Trade Center complex, right next to the 9/11 Memorial. It seems like a mall, but the architecture is very reminiscent of the superstructure of the WTC after it fell. This image is of the outside structure, taken from the north. It was processed through Luminar and Topaz Glow to clean and denoise it as well as to make it slightly more abstract.

An interpretation: The House of World Cultures (HKW) is an exhibition venue in Berlin for international contemporary art and a forum for current developments and discourses. It presents artistic productions from all over the world with a special focus on non-European cultures and societies.
Since its foundation in March 1989, the House of World Cultures has had its headquarters in the former Congress Hall on the banks of the River Spree in the Great Zoo and Government District. As an icon of architectural modernity, the Congress Hall became a prominent symbol of the German-American alliance. In Berlin vernacular, the building is also known under the name "Schwangere Auster" (pregnant qyster), which refers to its shape.

No Foundation!
Hawa Mahal is the tallest building in the world without a foundation. The five-storey building managed to maintain upright because of it is curved. Just another masterpiece of Rajput and Mughal architecture.
Durga Puja pandal architecture is a vibrant and dynamic art form, deeply rooted in Bengali tradition but continuously evolving with contemporary trends. The pandal serves as the temporary abode for the goddess Durga during the annual festival and is often an elaborate and creative expression of architectural ingenuity.
Materials Used
Bamboo: The traditional material used for the structure of the pandal, which is highly flexible and abundant.
Cloth and Paper: These are used for decorations, draping, and wall coverings. They are often painted or printed with intricate designs.
Plaster of Paris and Clay: Used for creating idols and sculptures.
Fiberglass and Metal: These are often used in modern pandals for creating stronger, more durable structures.
1. Traditional Designs
Bengali Folk Art: Traditional pandals often draw from rural Bengalâs heritage, incorporating local materials like bamboo, jute, and clay. These pandals typically feature motifs inspired by nature, mythology, and folk art.
Sholar Kaaj: This is a technique involving intricate designs made from shola (a type of plant) and is used to create ornaments, canopies, and decorations within the pandal.
Terracotta and Wooden Crafts: Terracotta sculptures, wooden carvings, and images of mythological figures are common in older pandals.
2. Modern Interpretations
Innovative Materials: Modern pandals often use contemporary materials like fiberglass, metal, and plastic alongside traditional materials. For instance, large fiberglass idols of Durga are increasingly used, along with innovative lighting, mirrors, and glasswork.
Thematic Pandals: Many pandals these days are built around a specific theme. The themes can range from environmental issues (like conservation of rivers or wildlife) to technological advancements, historical events, or even popular culture. The architecture of the pandal is designed to reflect this theme, often incorporating multimedia elements.
Eco-friendly Designs: In recent years, there has been a push for sustainable and eco-friendly pandals. These are often constructed using biodegradable materials such as bamboo, paper, and cloth, with designs that minimize environmental impact.
3. Architectural Features
Structural Form: Traditionally, pandals were dome-shaped or cylindrical, but now they can take on all sorts of avant-garde shapes, from temples to spaceships to replicas of famous monuments like the Eiffel Tower or the Taj Mahal.
Facade and Entrances: The entrance of the pandal is often grand and acts as a focal point of the design. It may incorporate arches, columns, and ornate carvings, often reflecting the temple architecture of India.
Ceilings and Roofs: The roofs of pandals are a key area for artistic expression, ranging from elaborate canopies made of flowers to highly stylized, often abstract, designs using light and color.
Lighting: Pandals are spectacularly lit, with millions of light bulbs strung up in intricate patterns. The lighting not only enhances the aesthetics but also creates a divine ambiance, especially at night.
Interior Layout: The interior of the pandal is designed to accommodate the idol of Durga, with a focus on creating a spiritual environment. The idol is often placed on a raised platform, surrounded by artistic depictions of various deities, animals, and scenes from mythology.
4. Regional Variations
Kolkata Pandals: In Kolkata, Durga Puja pandals are known for their immense creativity and often become larger-than-life structures. Famous areas like Kumartuli, Behala, and Santoshpur are known for their extravagant pandals.
Delhi and Other Urban Centers: Pandal designs in metropolitan areas might incorporate modern styles, influenced by international trends, such as futuristic designs, art installations, or replicas of foreign monuments. These pandals often blend cultural elements with urban sophistication.
Rural and Smaller Town Pandals: These tend to have simpler, more rustic designs but are rich in cultural symbolism. Often constructed with bamboo, they may showcase more traditional and handcrafted artworks.
5. Innovative and Avant-Garde Designs
Optical Illusions: Some pandals are designed to give the illusion of floating structures, using materials like mirrors and lights to create mesmerizing visual effects.
Interactive and Immersive Designs: Some pandals now aim to create immersive experiences. Visitors can walk through installations that engage all their senses, with sounds, lights, and even augmented reality elements enhancing the experience.
6. Famous Pandals and Their Architects
Kumartuli Park (Kolkata): Known for its amazing artistry!
