Four Interlocking Self-Interwoven Dodecagons 48 units

In my hand.

This idea is one I first played around with almost a year ago. However, I only designed one frame at the time, and didn't make a compound until recently. Each frame here is a self interwoven 12 sided polygon. Each polygon weaves around itself to form a shape that is similar to a triangular prism. Thus this can in a sense be viewed as a 4-triangular prism derivative compound, though as you can see the frames don't look much like that.

1 color per frame would definitely make this a lot more intelligible- sorry about that, I folded this initially out of scrap units (I had to recut the length, but the units are still mismatched for color.) This could use to be a little tighter, and so I may refold it out of better paper.

Obviously a 10-compound is possible, as is a 6 icosagon compound. I will probably work on them next.

An interlocking mechanism for Romsey’s lever frame. A few visitors have asked at exhibitions whether I could add it, so I thought it would be a fun challenge. Interlocking prevents unsafe or conflicting movements through the junction. Drive bars are black and the grey slopes are the ‘dogs’ that engage with the locking pins on the yellow locking bars. 3 locks are included, although more could be added, as it’s modular.

1) Lever 7 (Down Main Points) locks lever 8 (Up Points), so you can’t send an up train across to the branch if the points are set to allow a train to cross the junction on the main

2) Lever 8 (Up Points) releases lever 16 (Up Branch Starting Signal) so you can’t pull the signal until the points are set correctly for the branch

3) Lever 18 (Up Main Starting Signal) locks lever 8, so you can’t change the points if you’ve given the train the signal to start

In a World of ETERNITY..

Feeling the closeness of one to the other.

The softness of her skin.. against the warmth coming from his lips..

feeling each other breath.

There ... in their own kingdom of LOVE, in their united inner quiet.. The SOUND of LOVE, can be heard...

... YES, She's Hearing his heart beats..

Their hands interlocked one to another, touching each other hair.

ETERNITY of LIFE.. ETERNITY of LOVE..

She love him.. He love her..

To Know That You are LOVED, Today and Everyday, ALWAYS.

Inspirational spontaneous writing, That I made for this painting.

To celebrate this day... ,Valentine's day

Part of my series of EMOTIONS. Watercolour painting, That was interpret and inspired from a B & W photo...especially for today.

I chose Pastel Pink for her shirt.. which represent for me softness , love femininity and romanticism.

I chose Deep Green for him.. as the colour of growth, nature.. revival .. as almost leafs.

12 Interlocking Decagonal Stars + 6 Interlocking Pentakaidecagonal Stars 210 units 2-fold view

This is the dodecahedral equivalent of the previous octahedral compound I made with 6 Octagonal +4 Nonagonal Stars. I quite like the visual effect of the larger holes. On account of the “conar” nature of the decagonal stars, the frames warp slightly on the inside, but I don’t think it effects the model excessively.

Five Interlocking Truncated Tetrahedra #2 90 units In my hand.

A new wireframe design, one that I have known was possible for a long time. This solidifies the 20 Triangles compound into a sturdy, decent compound. It has a very Daniel Kwan-esque look to it, which is probably appropriate given that he designed the first 5 Truncated Tetrahedra compound. A cp is up for it, if anyone cares.

Twenty Interlocking Irregular Tetrahedra 120 units

5-fold view.

So yeah, I finally refolded this. Since the first one was folded out of scrap units, this is actually the first one folded on purpose. For those who don't know, or didn't see the first version, the design essentially aligns three edges of every flattened tetrahedron with the vertices of a rhombicosadodecahedron. This was, and remains extremely difficult. For the assembly itself (not weaving, just assembly) it is the hardest model I have ever folded. The last few triangular points are just ridiculous, since you have to assemble them outside of the model, and then bend them into the center. This version is a little different from the first, since I was able to use fresh units designed for the purpose. I also folded it larger than the original. This will likely be in my book, so I can't offer a cheatsheet, but I will give the dimensions: 1:5.5 and 1:8.5.

A section of the previous photo digitally mirrored. It's been a while since I mirrored anything.

I was driving by the former site of the Rockwell Gardens housing project, and I decided to take a few more shots. None of them really convey the awesome emptiness of that lot, but I found of them interesting for other reasons.

This shot is of the treads on this beast. It's probably best viewed large.

I stumbled on this gallery as I was photographing the Nan Lian Gardens. All the signage was in Chinese and there is a dearth of information on the net but the gallery’s purpose is visually apparent. The Chinese Timber Architecture Gallery shows, in miniature, how many of the buildings in both the garden and the adjacent nunnery were constructed. The elaborate chocks, blocks and joins that hold the roof together, without the benefit of nails, is put on display. The designs are both elaborate and attractive. Impressed!
