After Pensacola Beach, we headed due north into the interior of Florida's panhandle, aiming for Interstate 65 in Alabama and a hotel room we meant to rent for the night in Montgomery. The road north from Pensacola is a busy one, and it's full of Florida drivers, who usually like to go fast but are sometimes prone to congealing in lumps in the left lane at your back bumper, sort of like automotive blood clots. So at one point not far south of the Alabama line, I turned off the highway to get away from a clot and wound up in Panhandle country. Here is an old trailer home along the road where I turned off.
People who know Florida very well likely will dispute me on this, but I divide Florida into three distinct zones. There is Latin-American Florida, the zone of Florida heavily influenced by people from Cuba and Puerto Rico that keeps to the state's southeast corner, centered around Miami. There is Retirement Florida, the zone influenced by all the retirees from other places who live on the west coast from Tampa down to Fort Myers and along the I-4 corridor in the center of the state over to, like, the Space Coast. (Where my crazy aunt and uncle live.) And there is Panhandle Florida, which encompasses the namesake piece of western Florida and stretches along I-10 maybe all the way to Jacksonville. This is redneck Florida, the part of Florida that most closely associates itself with the Deep South and all the cultural baggage that carries with it. There are a lot of big pickup trucks out here.
I'd have had an easier time selling this read if that Mustang in the driveway had been a pickup truck. But it's a Mustang, which is almost close enough.

Winchester Cathedral is a cathedral of the Church of England in Winchester, Hampshire, England. It is one of the largest cathedrals in Europe, with the greatest overall length of any Gothic cathedral.
Dedicated to the Holy Trinity, Saint Peter, Saint Paul, and before the Reformation, Saint Swithun, it is the seat of the Bishop of Winchester and centre of the Diocese of Winchester.
The cathedral was founded in 642 on a site immediately to the north of the present one. This building became known as the Old Minster. It became part of a monastic settlement in 971.
Saint Swithun was buried near the Old Minster and then in it, before being moved to the new Norman cathedral. So-called mortuary chests said to contain the remains of Saxon kings such as King Eadwig of England, first buried in the Old Minster, and his wife Ælfgifu, are in the present cathedral. The Old Minster was demolished in 1093, immediately after the consecration of its successor.
