Edited Hubble Space Telescope image of the galaxy NGC 34, interacting with another galaxy.

Original caption: Appearing within the boundless darkness of space, the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope’s snapshot of NGC 34 looks more like an otherworldly, bioluminescent creature from the deep oceans than a galaxy. Lying in the constellation Cetus (The Sea Monster), the galaxy’s outer region appears almost translucent, pinpricked with stars and strange wispy tendrils. The main cause for this galaxy’s odd appearance lies in its past. If we were able to reverse time by a few million years, we would see two beautiful spiral galaxies on a direct collision course. When these galaxies collided into one another, their intricate patterns and spiral arms were permanently disturbed. This image shows the galaxy's bright centre, a result of this merging event that has created a burst of new star formation and lit up the surrounding gas. As the galaxies continue to intertwine and become one, NGC 34’s shape will become more like that of an peculiar galaxy, devoid of any distinct shape. In the vastness of space, collisions between galaxies are quite rare events, but they can be numerous in mega-clusters containing hundreds or even thousands of galaxies.

Watching You Watching Me:

In the new surveillance age we live in, everywhere you go you are being watched and your actions are being recorded. Using the same facial recognition technology agencies use to track people in surveillance footage, this interactive art installation will track its patrons and sketch them on the side of a building live. This interactive installation will use cameras and facial detection to sketch/paint the viewers of the installation while they are standing in front of it watching it paint. No actual footage of the patrons will be recorded, retained or sent over the internet. Only the sketches will be saved.

On the day I arrived here, the weather was so bad no boats were going out to view the whale sharks, so you loose some you win .

Oslob is a fourth class municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 26,116 people. Whale sharks are spotted in Tan-awan, Oslob which is 10 km away from the centre of the town. It started last September 2011 and become a tourist attraction and popular all over the world. Local fishermen’s interact with the whale sharks by feeding them by hand while tourists find it entertaining

The name Oslob came from a misunderstanding between a native couple, named Umpang and Burong, and two Guardia civil's (civil guards) in the year 1785 at a place currently named Nigad in barangay Daanlungsod. While the said couple were taking a rest under the tree and were eating their boiled bananas while soaking it with vinegar and salt, the two guards asked the couple: “Como se llama esto pueblo?”, meaning ”What is the name of this town?”. The couple not knowing what the civil guards were saying, were thinking that the strangers were asking them what they were doing. Since the couple, at that time, were then soaking bananas with the vinegar and salt, the couple answered Toslob, which means soak. After hearing the word Toslob, the civil guards kept on repeating the word Toslob thinking that the said word was the name of the town, which was later changed to “Oslob”. Until now, the flowing of the water at Nigad is still there quenching the thirst of the many people of the place including the nearby inhabitants specially when there is a shortage of water.

Sumilon Island is a 24-hectare coral island off the coast of Bancogon, Oslob, Cebu. The island hosts the Sumilon Blue water Island Resort which developed the island into an eco-friendly haven for those who want to get away from the stress of city living. The Island of Sumilon is located in the southeastern tip of the Municipality of Oslob in the province of Cebu. The island has an area of 24 hectares and has clear waters with varying aquamarine hues and white sand beaches in different areas of the island. It is the first marine protected area in the Philippines and was created as a marine sanctuary in 1974 under the guidance of the Siliman University Marine Reserve of Dumaguete City in the nearby province of Negros Oriental.

The island is famous throughout the country and internationally for the exceptional beauty of its dive sites. Sumilon has four major dive sites, which are Garden Eel Plaza, Nikki’s Wall, Coral Landscape and Julie’s Rock. The island’s diving sites are famous for their superb visibility, stunning reefs and abundance of varied tropical marine species that provide an ideal and memorable dive. There are occasional sightings of black tip sharks during dives. A popular attraction in Sumilon Island is its sandbar because of its changing shapes and shifting locations around the island depending on the season. Other places of interest in the island are a natural lagoon teeming with high mangroves and natural caves used by fishermen to seek refuge during storms, and a pristine lake. On the south portion of the island, a lighthouse rests on a protected tree park and beside it is a Baluarte, a historical watchtower built as part of a warning system to thwart slavers and marauders in the 19th century.

Besides diving, you can also go bird watching, do beach picnics with the family, fishing, hiking, island tours, paddling and trekking. Located in the island is the Sumilon Blue water Island Resort, a private beach resort that provides excellent amenities and facilities for tourists and guests. The Island of Sumilon is located off the southeast coast of the Municipality of Oslob, Cebu, and is under the administration of Oslob. The island is about 125 kilometres from Cebu City and separated from the mainland by the Cebu Strait. It is also close to Dumaguete City in the nearby island province of Negros Oriental. To get to Oslob, you can ride a public bus or a V-hire van from the Cebu South Bus Terminal in Cebu City. The estimated travel time from the city to Oslob is about three hours. The three-hour land trip to Oslob from Cebu City is a scenic ride through the southern coastal towns with fantastic views of the ocean. From the port of Oslob, there are pump boats or small fast constructs that will bring you to the island. Another route to Sumilon Island is via Dumaguete City since it is also close to the island

Land area 28 hectares

Number of animals 2530

Number of species 315

The Singapore Zoo (Chinese: ?????? ; Malay: 'Taman Haiwan Singapura'; Tamil: ??????????? ????????? ????????????), formerly known as the Singapore Zoological Gardens and commonly known locally as the Mandai Zoo, occupies 28 hectares (0.28 km?) of land on the margins of Upper Seletar Reservoir within Singapore's heavily forested central catchment area. The zoo was built at a cost of S$9m granted by the government of Singapore and opened on 23 June 1973. It is operated by Wildlife Reserves Singapore, who also manage the neighbouring Night Safari and the Jurong BirdPark. There are about 315 species of animal in the zoo, of which some 16% are considered threatened species. The zoo attracts about 1.4 million visitors a year.

From the beginning, Singapore Zoo followed the modern trend of displaying animals in naturalistic, 'open' exhibits, i.e. with hidden barriers, behind moats and shrubbery etc. It also houses the largest captive colony of orangutans in the world. In 1977, primatologist Dr Francine Neago lived inside a cage with eighteen orangutans for six months to study their behavior and communication.

History

Hamadryas baboons by a waterfall

The conception of the Singapore Zoo dates from 1969. At the time, the Public Utilities Board (PUB) decided to use some of its land holdings around reservoirs for parks and open recreational facilities. The then Executive Chairman of PUB, Dr Ong Swee Law, set aside 88 hectares of land for the construction of a zoological garden.

In 1970, consultants and staff were hired, and in 1971, the construction of the basic 50 enclosures started. Animals were collected from dealers and donated by sponsors. The Director of the Colombo Zoo in Sri Lanka, Lyn de Alwis, was hired as a special consultant to work out problems inherent in tropical zoos.

On 23 June 1973, the Singapore Zoo opened its gates for the first time with a collection of 270 animals from over 72 species, and a staff of 130. By 1990, 1,600 animals from more than 160 species lived in social groups, housed in 65 landscaped exhibits with boundaries conceived to look as natural as possible.

Present

A pair of white tigers

Today, the zoo is a model of the 'open zoo' concept. The animals are kept in spacious, landscaped enclosures, separated from the visitors by either dry or wet moats. The moats are concealed with vegetation or dropped below the line of vision. In the case of dangerous animals which can climb very well, moat barriers are not used. Instead, these animals are housed in landscaped glass-fronted enclosures.

The zoo has not expanded beyond the original 28 hectares. However, 40 hectares of secondary forest were later developed into the Night Safari. The remaining undeveloped land has been kept as wooded land. This and the waters of Upper Seletar Reservoir contribute to the Zoo, giving it a sense of natural, unrestricted space.

Among various attractions that the zoo offers, one highlight is the "Breakfast with an Orangutan" programme that allows visitors to meet and interact closely with the orangutans in the zoo, amongst which includes the famous primate matriarch Ah Meng, (died on February 8, 2008) who was an icon of the Singapore tourism industry. Animal shows, as well as token feedings coupled with live commentaries by keepers, are also the daily staple in the Singapore zoo.

Education and conservation

The Wildlife Healthcare & Research Centre was opened in March 2006 as part of the zoo's efforts in wildlife conservation. The centre further underscores Singapore Zoo and Night Safari’s commitment to conservation research, providing the infrastructure for the parks and overseas zoological partners to better execute their research programmes.

The zoo also embarked on various rescue and conservation efforts to protect wildlife.

Rides

White rhinos

The zoo also offers various modes of rides available within the premises: trams, animals, boat, pony and horse carriage rides. Additional modes of transportation which can only be rented include: strollers, wagon and wheelchairs.

Friends of the Zoo

The zoo also has a "friends of the zoo" programme, where people can sign up for a yearly pass which grants them special privileges such as:

* Free and unlimited entry to Singapore Zoo for whole year

* Free Zoo tram rides and parking

* A free quarterly "Wildlife wonders" magazine

* 10% discount at some participating retail outlets

Organizing events

Elephant show and the trainers

There are three event venues available in the zoo, Forest Lodge, Pavilion-By-the-Lake and Garden Pavilion. There are also three cocktail venues, Elephants of Asia, Tiger Trek and Treetops Trail. The Singapore Zoo also facilitates birthday parties and weddings.

Incidents

On 13 November 2008, two of three white Bengal tigers mauled a zoo cleaner to death after the man jumped into a moat surrounding their enclosure.[2]

SELF-PORTRAITR: AN INTERACTIVE EXHIBITION CURATING THE FLICKR.COM

COMMUNITY

June 30 through August 25, 2006

Pace/MacGill Gallery and the School of Visual Arts’ graduate photography department are pleased to present an interactive exhibition of self-portraits drawn from Flickr.com, the online digital photo-sharing network. Flickr’s user base consists of over one million members who share images and image-related information. Two leading forces in the New York art world—-a major photography gallery and a top art school—-have joined together to observe this online conversation of image making.

The mining and showcasing of this material strives to engage and expand a rapidly growing virtual arts community. The exhibition will be accessible to both viewers and contributors alike via the Pace/MacGill website www.pacemacgill.com. Pace/MacGill’s gallery space will house ten computers on which visitors can peruse the pictures gathered from numerous global photographers as they would online. A few monitors will display slideshows of images specifically collected via the gallery website.

The exhibition will not only rely on the Flickr community for content, but will also depend upon the activity of the site’s users for the organization and editing of what is anticipated to be thousands of images from the age-old genre of self-portraiture. Whether the image is taken by a professional photographer overseas or by an amateur experimenting with a camera phone in New York City, each image posted on Flickr and “tagged” as a self-portrait will automatically be filtered and directed into the exhibition.

The Pace/MacGill Flickr interface, created by SVA’s Jeremy Chien and Stephen Jablonsky and programmed by Kelvin Luck, allows users to vote for favorites, track the most viewed image, and create categories. Sorting options or subcategories (self portrait “with mirror” or at “beach,” for example) within the virtual exhibition will enable further definition and refinement.

The work in the exhibition will perpetually expand with the proliferation of users until the popularity of each category aids in its editing. As more images are collected and more users are interacting with the site to make selections, the work will become more discerning and interesting. One can choose the role they wish to assume: curator, artist, etcetera. With every click of the mouse, viewers become participants; the interactive community defines the exhibition. The hope is that the final result will be a 50 print exhibition of images chosen by the community.

The School of Visual Arts is widely recognized as one of the finest art schools in the country for its innovative and experimental program philosophies, its participation in the cultural life of New York City, and its unparalleled faculty comprised of professional artists. The MFA Photography, Video and Related Media department has been a leader in the implementation of photography in the digital world. The exhibition has been assembled by Pace/MacGill Gallery, Jeremy Chien, and Stephen Jablonsky. Chien and Jablonsky are both alumni and faculty members at the School of Visual Arts’ MFA program in Photography, Video and Related Media. UK web developer Kelvin Luck programmed the exhibition software to search, filter and explore Flickr.com.

Gallery summer hours are: Monday-Thursday, 9:30-5:30, and Friday, 9:30-4:00. The gallery will be closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Summer hours begin on June 20 and continue through Labor Day.

Interactive Parametrics Workshop w/ Studio Mode and MakerBot, Feb 19-21, 2011. Processing, MakerBots and people who know about making objects...

For the St. Regis, an establishment world-renowned for personal service, Potion created a custom interactive bar and tasting table to expand the reach of the Master Sommelier in their newest restaurant.

Working closely with the Rockwell Group and The Map Office to design the overall experience at Adour, Potion’s interactives, constructed from gold and bronze with a goat skin surface, are as far from a traditional touch screen as one can get. Potion’s large-scale interactive projections seamlessly blend with the environment, allowing patrons to browse Adour's complete wine list by wine type, country, and varietal.

Upon selecting a wine, a rosette appears that contains detailed information about the wine’s origin. Sommeliers and patrons alike may share or send their rosettes to other guests at the bar. At the touch-sensitive Private Tasting Table, Potion’s software allows the maitre d’ to create a unique group experience for guests, “setting the table” with personalized wine selection projections. To keep each patron’s experience personal and fresh, Potion created a custom content management system for Adour, allowing the wine director to update the interactive bar on a daily basis or for a special occasion.

Company Intro:

We're a professional manufacturer of printing products and the pioneer in 3D advertising on floor in malls and super markets.

3D Design:

3D street painting becomes popular nowadays. But until now most of those works were created by the artists. We are able to make the 2D pic into 3D one and print it in large quantity. The floor between the two shelves is the best position for doing advertising, but it is usually ignored. Our product can easily attract people's attention. And also the advertising can be interactive, so people will feel happy to share their photos with their friends.

Our Service:

We can design 3D graphic accord with your creative or make 2D pic into 3D effect. If you want to see more items, please visit our website.
