A 4:00am Milky Way core rises over Zion National Park. That's The Watchman on the right and Bridge Mountain on the left—both lit with light pollution from the sleepy little town of Springdale (population 529), less than a mile right of the camera's view.

I took this 6-image panorama one week ago, just before Zion was closed for COVID-19 safety reasons. There was virtually no one in the park this night. The campground (just below the core) only had a couple of campers in it, so there was very little light pollution, except for the "night light" coming from Springdale.

Hey guys : )

This will be my last photo for a while... I'll be on & off for the next few weeks (possibly even into the end of next month).

I do have plans to log into Flickr & do some catching up though... specifically for this:

1. Catch up with all my friends here!

2. Having a look through my new contacts!

3. Visiting those who have left such wonderful comments recently : )

(( I truly can't wait to visit everyone again in the coming days & weeks... so excited to see what everyone's been up to recently! ))

*** My main reason for joining Flickr was simply so I could finally make comments & give respect to all the wonderful photographers (who's works I so often viewed & enjoyed here) ***

Once I began uploading pics myself... I found that my time (admiring the works of others) was drastically reduced... and it affected my enjoyment time here, as well as finding new inspiration.

So I'm definitely taking some time off from uploading for a while (after this one!)

I'll also be away a bit and offline sometime... which will give me the opportunity to go through some of my recent photo shoots & gather some special moments to share with you guys in the future : )

This should turn out to be a positive thing all around : )

Now, regarding the title of this latest pic & how the capture came about:

I shot this one on the island of Crete (Greece) very early one morning.

I had found a rock pier which extended quite far out into the ocean... but the part of it which connected to the beach was submerged, so I had to wade through a bit of water to make it up on the rocks.

Usually not a big deal but a bit more exciting when it's so early in the morning and you're the only one out there on the ocean ; )

Anyhow, I walked out to the end of it, sat down and watched a very hazy sunrise appear that morning.

It was beautiful!

Those dark & light tones of orange & gold hazing around the sun were amazing to witness : )

One thing I tried to do was zoom-in and avoid that buoy (which you can now see) in the shot... but after messing with it for a while I put the camera down and tried to 'take in the scene' from a fresh angle.

What I realized was that I was very alone out there on the edge of this rock pier... and I let my mind wonder a bit about the ripples forming around that buoy ; )

It made me think of that powerful intro scene in the film JAWS!, when the person makes a last attempt to hold on to the buoy before fate takes its course.

It also reminded me of another scene from the same film where the giant shark pulls barrels under the water with ease... (I began to hear that low rumbling theme from the movie!)

A vivid imagination fit real well with that early morning experience!

After watching that buoy for a while, bobbing in that early hazy sunrise... while I was out there all alone, wondering what all was swimming beneath those waters...

I decided to keep it in the shot, as it had made such an exciting impact!

When I returned to shore again, I crossed through that submerged area of the pier a bit quicker than before ; )

(I actually did see one other person that early morning, and that was the 'Golden Fisherman' which I captured & uploaded here earlier)

Again, hope you guys understand why I won't be uploading for a while.

I believe I'll actually have more time to catch up and interact with everyone this way : )

Also hope you enjoy the new photo (& possibly even the backstory of my experience that morning!)

And of course, thank you so much for your support my friends!

It is always my wish that you find something interesting or enjoyable in my shares with you : )

Have a wonderful day ahead everyone and see you all again soon!!!

: )

CRUSH

Educational web-based/city-based game, Slap the Facts

on Historical Ludlow Massacre

(Dang it all, how did I get another video on its side?) I am 6 foot 1 1/4 inches in my stocking feet ( I prefer "in my hose feet" ) and have always been deathly afraid of towering above the maddening crowds when in public, hence part of my great fear of going out. You see I also love heels, even small ones! This video is a break through for me in more ways than one, you see this is my very first time actually in public and close enough to be seen and interact with people! More on this great day and event later! But for now, I somehow got the courage to walk into a grocery store. Do you recall that first time, it seems that you steel your nerves and then some sort of auto pilot takes over....and in you go! In any event the moment I went in I grabbed a grocery cart and off I went! Within a few seconds I noticed a tall very attractive blond GG. She was tall in the attractive sense to me, not tall in the freaky, could play in the NBA sense. I said to myself, I have to find out just how badly I must stand out, being now 6'1 1/4" with another 2 inches of heels. So I headed off for this pretty blond with the sole intention of somehow standing next to her and getting a visual comparison of what a monster I surely was! Much, much, much to my surprise, as you can see in the video, she was almost exactly my height! ........ Wait a minute, if I think she is quite attractive and of a normal, albeit not short, size.....then can it be true, do I not stand out in a public place as some gigantic freak of nature causing everyone to immediately turn and stare at the amazon woman, or worse, at the bride of king long! ( Say, Do I talk to much in these little essays? Does anyone besides Toni Richards or NikiLynn read this far? -giggle) in any event, I was stunned upon review of this video that this attractive blond MILF in the produce section was almost exactly my height (even with my heels on)! This may be old hat to many of you, but for those of us 6 got and above, it was a stunning revelation to me that I could go out in public and not stick out as some oddity or freak! What an awakening! I will wait for another day to discuss how I looked and felt otherwise. I notice that the blond in the produce section gave me a hard look as I walked away! Was I read, did I look at all passable, what was she thinking? This was such an exciting emotive day for me that I have no recollection or feel for how I was! I know I have a long way to go, but this was one incredible day for shy little reticent Bobbi!

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.

We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

“A concise poem about our work as stated elow

A cataclysmic cosmic collision takes center stage in this image taken with the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope. The image features the interacting galaxy pair IC 1623, which lies around 275 million light-years away in the constellation Cetus (the Whale). The two galaxies are in the final stages of merging, and astronomers expect a powerful inflow of gas to ignite a frenzied burst of star formation in the resulting compact starburst galaxy.

This interacting pair of galaxies is a familiar sight; Hubble captured IC 1623 in 2008 using two filters at optical and infrared wavelengths on the Advanced Camera for Surveys. This image incorporates data from Wide Field Camera 3, and combines observations taken in eight filters spanning infrared to ultraviolet wavelengths to reveal the finer details of IC 1623. Future observations of the galaxy pair with the NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope will shed more light on the processes powering extreme star formation in environments such as IC 1623.
