One year ago I ran into some far away country from the English Isles. Meet 20 something crazy ass photographers along the way and we took a group selfie half naked in the snowy mountains...
Life last year for me was freaking crazy and it's just as crazy that it took me this long to get round to editing this photo :P My career has kept me away from photography for a while and I'm glad that I've got a little bit of time to myself to revisit these memories in pictures.
This pretty flower stag thing is no other than Sarah Ann Loreth.

This peculiar galaxy, beautifully streaked with tendrils of reddish dust, is captured here in wonderful detail by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope.
The galaxy is known as NGC 1022, and is officially classified as a barred spiral galaxy. You can just about make out the bar of stars in the centre of the galaxy in this image, with swirling arms emerging from its ends. This bar is much less prominent than in some of the galaxy’s barred cousins and gives the galaxy a rather squat appearance; but the lanes of dust that swirl throughout its disc ensure it is no less beautiful.
Hubble observed this image as part of a study into one of the Universe’s most notorious residents: black holes. These are fundamental components of galaxies, and are thought to lurk at the hearts of many — if not all — spirals. In fact, they may have quite a large influence over their cosmic homes. Studies suggest that the mass of the black hole sitting at a galaxy’s centre is linked with the larger-scale properties of the galaxy itself. However, in order to learn more, we need observational data of a wider and more diverse range of galaxies — something Hubble’s study aims to provide.

The evening began under the banner of dub with Mediterranean influences from Iseo & Dodosound. Dub-loving producers Alberto Iriarte and Leire Villanueva began collaborating together on this project in 2014 and, very soon, crossed national borders to become a benchmark for lovers of original sounds in the field of dub in Europe.
Their beautiful concert was the perfect start to this memorable evening in which, in addition to various songs from their discography, they presented their latest work at the festival, entitled «Blossom», released this year.
La velada comenzó bajo la bandera del dub con influencias mediterráneas de Iseo & Dodosound. Los productores amantes del dub Alberto Iriarte y Leire Villanueva comenzaron a colaborar juntos en este proyecto en 2014 y, muy pronto, traspasaron las fronteras nacionales para convertirse en un referente para los amantes de los sonidos originales en el campo del dub en Europa.
Su hermoso concierto fue el comienzo perfecto de esta memorable velada en la que, además de varios temas de su discografía, presentaron en el festival su último trabajo, titulado «Blossom», publicado este año.

Sean: (pounds on the door) Hey! Are the two of you fighting? Open the door!
Nicole: It doesn't sound like they're fighting. It sounds like -- like convulsions! Sean! What if they were poisoned by that stuff?
Sean: Kiley! (he throws himself against the door and grunts) What the hell?
Nicole: What's wrong? (watching Sean try a couple more powerful shoulder hits then a kick)
Sean: They've got something up against the door!
Nicole: Why would they do that?
Sean: I'm going to go out to her window. You stay here, and call the police.
Nicole: (eyes wide) Police?
Sean: Tell them you think the girls took something they ordered online. Not a drug, something they thought would make them pretty, but we think they might have been poisoned!

Happy Friday! I'm pretty sure that these were part of a hydrangea plant. This was just outside Bloedel Conservatory in Vancouver, British Columbia. Our big mostly-Canadian adventure involved lots of amazing landscapes, but my macro lens still got a chance to come out and play, too :)
A mixture of influences from a several locations up Borrowdale. I’m toying with the idea of cracking out my paints and going old-school with this one.

I have chosen to highlight these four photographs by H.J. King (1892-1973) as showing traces of the rising influence of Modernist photography. It is true that King’s early work has more in keeping with 19th century photography than the more radical trends emerging in Europe, and even in Australia through the work of photographers such as Harold Cazneaux (1878-1953), Max Dupain (1911-1992) and his wife Olive Cotton (1911-2003).
There are some later examples of what might be considered Pictorialism in King’s work (especially the 1935 image, “Forest Light”), even though Pictorialism was a dead end by this stage. Part of the reason why King was less fashionable than the urban photographers of Sydney and Melbourne, was that Tasmania was largely a rural state (much like a West Virginia in the USA). So we see in King’s work a great stylistic eclecticism, mainly because he was more interested in recording a changing world than setting new fashion trends in art.
But these four photographs are among his more aesthetically progressive works. We remember that Modernism embraced a forward looking view of the world, particularly with respect to developing technology. www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/artboards/photography/modernism/
Clockwise from the top, we see the photograph of King’s motorcycle showroom in Launceston. Everything about this 1926 photograph makes us think of the great Walker Evans (1903-1975), though Evans did not take up photography until 1928! Miss Forbes with her Indian Scout winning speed trials in 1926 is truly one of the best photographs of the era. Remember it is captured on a large format camera not designed to register such speed. A fine achievement by photographer and rider. Perhaps someone can find out some more information about the amazing Miss Forbes. She was quite the go-getter, but remember this was the era of the Flapper and Amelia Earhart.
The photograph of the biplanes simulating a dog fight at the Launceston Air Pageant in 1932 is reminiscent of the amazing Howard Hughes film of 1930, “Hells Angels”. www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhyNpM5FKNE
The thing to recall here is that according to H.J’s own admission this photograph is a multiple exposure. King was in a third aircraft taking separate shots of the two biplanes and then pieced them together in the darkroom.
The last photograph of his daughter Daisy in 1938 is undeniably King emulating the Modernist approaches to light and shadow. The distorted shadow is actually quite brilliant and a nod to surrealist influences. That being said, King was very much a conservative at heart and this gave him his desire to conserve the natural world.

Llanarmon Mynydd Mawr, occasionally referred to as Llanarmon Fach, is an isolated rural parish in Powys, Wales. It was formerly in Denbighshire, and from 1974 to 1996 was in the county of Clwyd. It measures 2 square miles (5 km2) and has a population of 40.
The scattered settlement lies on the south-facing slopes of the Berwyn Mountains in the high upper part of the Tanat Valley, at around 950 feet above sea level. Its name translates roughly as "St Garmon's church [on the] Great Mountain", distinguishing it from the village of Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog, 5 miles (8 km) away in the Ceiriog Valley.

Today, landscape architects praise him for his work using natural plants and manmade elements to create geometric or abstract “paintings” on the ground.

The country does not have fresh water but it has desalinated water of excellent quality and you can safely drink tap water. The small country is a major producer and exporter of aloe vera (aloe vera) and is strong in the financial and fishing sectors, in addition to logistical services in the oil sector. It is a small island with a lot of sun and wind all the time, which favors the country's main economic activity, tourism. I was originally trying to get a picture of a single white tulip bulb among the red ones. Then, this woman in a sundress walked into my shot...but I'm not complaining!
Mans influence suddenly runs dry at the edge of our land. As I looked further out to shore, the confident, blazing lights of the city started to vanish into the blackness.
Ok, so I'm not in any sort of good physical shape. After spending the previous 6 weeks cycling 10k every day, I was no better at climbing stairs and hills than 2 years prior. Nevermind.

The furry creature that Torontonians "love to hate" make their debut at the CNE this year. Twelve (12) three-dimensional large fiberglass raccoons decorated by persons from various abilities will greet CNE guests by the Princess Margaret Fountain.
Each recipient was challenged to transform the fiberglass figure into a unique piece of art celebrating "the raccoon".

Sade Johnson is a grade 10 student at Westview Centennial Secondary School. Sade likes drawing and sports such as football, basketball, swimming, soccer and boxing. Her favourite subject is music and she plays the guitar and piano. Sade is proud of her achievements including 2 medals in basketball, a certificate for ‘Most Creative’ in Art Design. Her favourite part of this project was that she got to design and paint the racoon on her own.

The theme Painting under the Influence illustrates how much we are influenced and inspired by what we see around us and how it effects our own interpretations of the subject. Raccoons have been fighting traffic for years and many were not successful in navigating the roadways. Whole families were destroyed. I am asking all drivers to have compassion and “GIVE US A BRAKE”. Be more observant on the roads and avoid deadly collisions with these creatures both day and night.

Niam Jain specializes in Gestural Abstract Art and Abstract Expressionism. Jain is only 16 but composes works beyond his years that inspire and intrigue. Jain paints in layers, with each layer expressing a thought or emotion with the entire painting telling a story. Although Jain has autism and lacks fluent speech, he reminds us a canvas is a medium of ultimate expression.
