INDONESIA. Kubu, Bali. June 20th, 2013. A view from the stern of shipwreck near the shoreline in the village of Kubu. Recently sunk, this wreck is intended to act as an artificial reef.
From the slums to the volcanos, the mangos to the satay, waterfalls to wet passports, and cooking courses to New Years in the shanties of Bandung, this is Indonesia.
Steve and I visited Indonesia for the first time in May 2018 for ten days. We made stops in Jakarta and Yogyakarta (both in Java) and Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara/ Flores. We saw friends from graduate school, and visited mosques, cathedrals, and ancient temples. We swam with fishes, manta rays, and even baby sharks. We saw amazing sunrises and endlessly beautiful sunsets. Indonesia is a generous, wonderful, and stunningly gorgeous place, and we will be glad to visit again sometime soon.
