As the largest Hindu temple in Southeast Asia, the beautiful and graceful temple of Prambanan is a magnificent spectacle and an icon of Indonesia’s cultural heritage.

Prambanan was just a pile of rocks after 1000 years of neglect, earthquakes, volcanos, and looting, We were seeking a place to drink some water and take a break from the sun when we ducked into the small museum at a slow end of the complex, and the lone guy working was eager to explain the exhibits showing the restoration. As we watched a video showing the process of sorting, marking, and eventually matching stones that can fit together, we realized that one of the guys in the video was our tour guide. There are still hundreds of small temples to be reconstructed, and at the current pace this will take hundreds of years. I don't know what they pay the dedicated people who continue this work, but I suspect that it is not enough to motivate skilled people to carry on this tradition.

Colourful parasols displayed beside the exit from the Orchid Festival 2020 at Kew Gardens, London. The orchid festival celebrated more than just orchids with other plants such as bromeliads and representation of Indonesian wildlife through life-size models. Colourful fabrics could be found elsewhere in the Princess of Wales Conservatory as well as these parasols.
