Sunshine by the gorge

As I got further south and higher up, I started to see more sunshine. The view here is eastward, toward the Genesee River gorge. The dark spot at the center of the photograph is the lean-to I was headed for.

February 1, 2025. Letchworth State Park. A short jaunt from Hogsback to the lean-to and back on a bright and sunny afternoon. About 15F/-9C. A beautiful day for a walk. I was thankful for my new mittens.

Quando la Grecia ti manca

puoi solo andarci

altra medicina non c’è

placebo è tutto il resto

Piuttosto resta malato

non tradirla con palliativi

Pillole dal sapore di mare

sorrisi

e incanti

infondo non esistono

E allora tornaci

nella tua Grecia

va incontro alla tua cura

Che cos’è la mancanza se non amore?

E l’amore

lo sai

tutto

This is probably the greatest association with Christmas, what it is about, the birth of a child, LOVE...

Once the baby is there, the expectations are even greater.

A previous image ... see GREAT EXPECTATIONS

This here is a moment of intimacy, tenderness, closeness.

The song 'Getting to know you' springs to mind.

A difficult negative to print, so!

Hope you like what I've done.

May your day be a good one, thanx for viewing, Magda (*_*)

Mamiya pride.

I was not the only one shooting film. She was there with a gorgeous Mamiya on a tripod. I might do that next time. Except that I was having as much fun watching the spectators as the spectators were watching the parade.

Saturday, July 16, I walked in the Rochester, NY Pride parade with a group from the Irondequoit United Church of Christ. The parade felt like a city-wide celebration. All shapes, sizes, and ages welcome.

I edited this one for more contrast, but it lost the magic. So I started over. This has had my usual pass with an unsharp mask and dust and speckle cleanup, otherwise it is just how it came off the scanner.

Mark chose 'Division' as the deviantArt WeeklyFotoChallenge theme for the week. It got me thinking about this photograph. Inside versus outside; right, center and left; awake versus dreaming; light versus darkness.; on the trail versus on the way home. The diversity and unity of life.

Worlds of light and shadow.

Friday at Letchworth. Sunny, upper 70s. I started at the main Hogsback overlook, walked to north overlook behind the Highbanks Recreational Area, then back south for a while. My hip complained that I have not done enough walking of late.

I was struck by what different worlds are the trail along the rim and the river several hundred feet below.

First frame on the roll. I started the roll on Friday, finished and developed it yesterday, and started scanning this afternoon.

Max4ster and the water buffalo.

From the Horse Gap encampment it was up and over Sassafras Mountain and down to Cooper Gap. Sassafras Mountain wasn't terribly steep, just relentless. It took me four hours plus to get over the top. Ooph.

My last full water resupply had been the morning before at Hawk Mountain. I had managed to scrounge some more from folks who had extra, but I was still watching my supply closely. I was very glad to see the Army water buffalo (yes, that's what they are called) at Cooper Gap. It was there primarily for troops doing training in the area but it was available also to hikers. It may just have been my imagination, but it seemed to me the Army had improved the quality of the liner since my active duty days five decades ago. The water was delicious.

As finding a plentiful water supply was the high point of my day, I will count this toward this weeks @WeeklyFotoChallenge of "Water".

Max Forester pulled in for some trail magic (another technical term). He had bottled water and an assortment of snacks. He got pictures taken with each of us there. Most but not all were with cellphones. A character, yea verily, and quite taken with himself. Do check out the license plate.

My original plan had been to continue on to Gooch Mountain shelter, another three and a half miles up and down the trail. It had taken me long enough to get over Sassafras Mountain that I figured it would be well after dark by time I got to the shelter, assuming I didn't fall and hurt myself seriously before then. I was getting too tired to be agile and careful enough to trust my footing on the trail. I called it a day and bummed a ride back to Above the Clouds Hostel.

New pavilion, new snow.

A few weeks ago.

After tromping around in the show at Letchworth I stopped for music and a brew at Dublin Corners Farm Brewery. Their new pavilion was just about ready for its Saint Patrick's Day inauguration this last weekend.

I loaded a fresh roll of film in the 6x6 and shot one photograph out in the snow and one back inside. Just because that's what I do.

Back to shooting with the Ondu 135 pinhole camera, quite a switch from the huge negatives with the 6x12.

Friday, April 25. Walked trail 7 along the east rim of the river valley. It was a rainy, misty day, about 45F.

A double exposure project I did with Brazilian artist Beatriz Moreira. Sadly, I underexposed my images a bit too much so that most of the roll we see only Bea's images but here and there we see a wonderful effect of both her and my images showing through.

This is one of the images where we cannot make out any of my initial exposure. This is disappointing in a way but at least Bea's images are good and we have learned a lesson about planning exposure values for a project like this.
