LNER IEP Class 800 unit No. 800103 passes Alexandra Palace working the 5X91 12:48 King's Cross to Doncaster Carr IEP Depot driver training run
The Virgin Train Azuma, following a quick reversal in Copenhagen Tunnel, takes the King's Cross incline to access the North London Line while returning from King's Cross to North Pole IEP depot, following the completion of the official launch. It meets a Eurostar just out of St.Pancras International bound for Brussels, providing a comparison of high speed trains.

Hitachi IEP class 801 no. 801101 passes Copmanthorpe on the approach to York with a test train 5X05 from Doncaster IEP depot to Edinburgh. The train returnrd to Doncaster in the afternoon.

Ieper
Saint-Charles de Potyze is a French military cemetery for the war dead of the First World War, located in the Belgian city of Ypres. It commemorates approximately 4,800 dead, of whom over 1,300 could not be identified. The cemetery covers an area of approximately 29,900 m² and is located about three kilometers northeast of the city center, along the road to Zonnebeke (N332), just past the hamlet of Potyze. The entrance to the cemetery is flanked by two white stone columns. To the left of the entrance stands a sculpture group depicting a Calvary. At the rear is a mass grave and an obelisk commemorating several infantry regiments. The graves are marked with upright crosses, with the exception of a number of Muslim and Jewish graves, which have a headstone with an inscription corresponding to their faith.

The IEP units do look good from the side (well, better than 1 185), there's something old, something new, and something blue. The blue roof below the train helps the composition. The service is 9M06, the 0627 Ediunburgh - Liverpool Lime Street.

Out on test, Hitachi 801 101 working Newcastle - Doncaster IEP depot passing the "200 Miles to Edinburgh" sign near York. These units will work the ECML with Virgin Trains from London to Edinburgh and other cities in the North East.

Class 800 IEP unit 800113 is seen departing from Doncaster on February 13th 2019 working 5Q30, a mileage accumulation service ran from Doncaster Carr IEP depot to Peterborough.

A rare daylight outing for the new trains - something that over time will become a common sight on the ECML.
As I raced through Peterborough Non stop I managed to snap a photo of my First Class 800 'Azuma' IEP train destined for the East Coast Route in 2018.
Not a brilliant photo due to the speed, my excitement and dirty windows of my Virgin Train, but for me a milestone as I have wanted to see one of these for real instead of just in other peoples photos.
Now the goal is to see one close up or at a station so I can experience it better.

Newton Aycliffe-Hitachi Rail Europe will provide new electric and bi-mode trains, for both the Great Western Main Line and the East Coast Main Line. The Department for Transport started the Intercity Express Programme (IEP) in 2005 to consider what should replace the ageing High-Speed Trains (HSTs).

First GWR Class 800/3 IET No. 800315 is seen passing Dawlish with 1A87 the 14:30 Newton Abbot to London Paddington service on Sunday 20th January 2019.
IEP Class 800 unit 800101 in Virgin Trains livery at Exeter St Davids on its first test run from Stoke Gifford to Plymouth during the late evening of 3rd OCtober 2016.
This run was supposedly to test the unit on the South Devon banks, but ironically it was due to pass along the seawall at Dawlish shortly after high tide and Cross Country had already cancelled its Voyager units because of the threat of high winds and waves crashing over the sea wall!
