Dr. Johannes Baur - Head of Sector for Economic Cooperation, Energy, Environment and Infrastructure at the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine. He earned a M.A. degree in History, Slavic studies and Law at the University of Konstanz in 1993 and finished his studies with a Ph.D (Dr. phil) in modern history in 1996. Before starting his career at the Commission in 2000, he was working for the Foreign Ministry of Germany and in the private sector. He has been working in different functions in

the European Commission’s Directorates-General for Energy and Transport with a focus on external energy and transport relations and negotiations, and in the area of Human Resources Management. From 2014-16 he was member of the Commission's Support Group for Ukraine created in spring 2014 as focal point for the Commission's support to Ukraine and the post-Maidan Ukrainian government.

Given I had based a "Boovie" comic on our visit to the model train show....I thought I showed you some photos from the event itself. So here's the first photo which was the GM Electro Motive Aerotrain zipping around the tracks in speeds like today's high speed rail trains (That's excluding the Shanghai Transrapid and the proposed "Hyperloop"). Well most of the trains are indeed in a blur because they were moving around the track.

In den letzten Jahren haben sich die Bedürfnisse der Post-Kunden grundsätzlich verändert, und damit auch die Ansprüche des Unternehmens an die Logistikpartnerin. Was sind die wichtigsten Trends und wie entwickelt sich SBB Cargo dabei?

 

Trend 1: Einkaufen im Internet.

 

Am Kartonsammeltag wird sichtbar, wie erfolgreich das Online-Shopping unterdessen ist: Die Strassenzüge der Schweizer Innenstädte sind voll mit gefalteten Schachteln der einschlägigen Online-Versandhäuser.

 

Die Post als Nummer eins im Schweizer Paketmarkt hat 2015 rund 115 Mil-lionen Pakete zugestellt. Ein Jahr später waren es fast 122 Millionen Pakete – eine Zunahme um sechs Prozent. «Auch in den nächsten Jahren rechnen wir mit einem jährlichen Wachstum von zwei bis drei Prozent», sagt Dieter Bambauer, Leiter PostLogistics und Mitglied der Konzernleitung der Schweizerischen Post.

 

Um die grössere Nachfrage abzudecken, müssen wir effizienter werden.

Das hat Auswirkungen auf den Güterverkehr. Gemäss den «Verkehrsperspektiven» vom Bundesamt für Raumentwicklung (ARE) nimmt der Güterverkehr bis 2040 um 37 Prozent zu. Haupttreiber dabei: der zunehmende Online-Handel. «Um die grössere Nachfrage marktgerecht abzu-decken, müssen wir leistungsfähiger und effizienter werden», sagt Jasmin Bigdon, Leiterin Unternehmensentwicklung und Mitglied der Geschäftsleitung von SBB Cargo, «deshalb arbeiten wir ständig an der Angebotsverbesserung und stark an der Automatisierung des Betriebs.»

 

Konkret: Wo kann Automatisierung dem Schienengüterverkehr helfen, schneller und effizienter zu werden? «In einem ersten Schritt führen wir das automatische Kuppeln ein und testen zusammen mit anderen Güterbahnen die automatische Bremsprobe», erklärt Jasmin Bigdon. Zudem könne die Automatisierung zum Beispiel die «letzte Meile» bis zu den Kunden verbessern, indem in einen «Ein-Personen-Betrieb» gewechselt und so die Abläufe beschleunigt werden. Die autonome Streckenfahrt wird aber erst zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt ein Thema, denn viele Kreuzungspunkte und unterschiedliche Züge machen eine Pilotierung auf dem Schienennetz schwieriger als auf der Strasse.

 

Trend 2: Das Tempo nimmt zu.

 

Der Anspruch an Geschwindigkeit ist klar: Wird etwas online bestellt, soll es bereits am nächsten Tag zu Hause ausgepackt werden können. «In den letzten Jahren ist die Anzahl der Priority-Pakete stetig gestiegen», sagt Dieter Bambauer. «Der Anteil lag letztes Jahr bei rund 50 Prozent. Vor 16 Jahren lag er unter 20 Prozent.»

 

«Wir sind stolz, dass wir Pakete und Briefe für die Post transportieren dürfen», sagt Jasmin Bigdon. Den Wunsch nach mehr Tempo versucht SBB Cargo zu erfüllen: «Die Zuverlässigkeit und Geschwindigkeit für unsere Kunden im Expressverkehr weiter zu steigern, ist ein Hauptziel unserer Strategie», sagt Jasmin Bigdon. «Wir wollen die Durchschnittsgeschwindigkeit auf den Trassen für den Güter-verkehr beschleunigen und damit unser Expressangebot ausweiten. Ab 2018 haben geplante Güterverkehre die gleiche Prio-rität wie der Personenverkehr.» Und es braucht Investitionen, laut Jasmin Bigdon «wird das Produktionsnetz weiter auf Wirtschaftsräume und Kunden fokussiert. Die Bahnanlagen müssen modernisiert werden, damit sie den Ansprüchen von morgen genügen.»

 

Trend 3: Individualisierung.

 

Dieter Bambauer beschreibt die heutigen Kunden so: «Sie sind immer mobiler, untereinander vernetzt und vor allem sind sie anspruchsvoller geworden.» Individualisierbare und massgeschneiderte Dienstleistungen gewinnen deshalb immer stärker an Bedeutung und entscheiden über die Markttauglichkeit eines Angebots.

 

Die Kunden wollen ihre Post während 24 Stunden am Tag abholen können, verpasste Pakete überall hinleiten können. Oder sie wünschen eine zweite Zustellung am gleichen Tag. Die Individualisierung geht noch weiter: In vier Ballungszentren werden Pakete auch am Sonntag zugestellt, für Geschäftskunden offeriert die Post Zustell-Zeitfenster, LeShop-Kunden, die Volvo fahren, können sich den Online-Einkauf direkt in den Kofferraum liefern lassen. Damit das möglich ist, wird die Zusammenarbeit mit SBB Cargo stark gefördert.

 

So vielfältig die Angebotspalette ak-tuell ist, die Post arbeitet bereits mit Hochdruck an den nächsten Innovationen. Zustellroboter und Drohnen werden getestet und bereits eingesetzt. Vor allem auf der letzten Meile seien diese Technologien sehr interessant, meint Dieter Bambauer, zum Beispiel für die Belieferung von Menschen, die abgeschieden wohnen, oder für die Versorgung einer von der Umwelt abgeschnittenen Siedlung. Doch «in absehbarer Zeit wird der Einsatz von Drohnen nicht über ein Nischendasein hinausgehen und den Schienentransport auch nicht ersetzen», sagt der Leiter von PostLogistics.

 

Zukunft: Unterirdischer Versand.

 

Noch weiter in die Zukunft geht das Projekt Cargo SousTerrain (CST). Zusammen mit SBB Cargo engagiert sich die Post in einem entsprechenden Förderverein. Das Ziel: ein unterirdisches Tunnelsystem für den Güterverkehr in der Schweiz zu bauen. Dieter Bambauer und Jasmin Bigdon sind im Verwaltungsrat, neben Vertretern anderer grosser Schweizer Firmen wie der Migros, Coop, der Mobiliar, Swisscom, der deutschen SAP oder der US-amerikanischen Hyperloop One.

 

Der unter-irdische, automatische Versand schafft dort Kapazitäten, wo die Engpässe am grössten sind.

«Der grosse Vorteil von CST ist, dass die bestehende Infrastruktur nicht zusätzlich ausgebaut werden muss und kein zusätz-licher Platz beansprucht wird. CST trägt dazu bei, die Qualität und Pünktlichkeit der Post nachhaltig zu sichern – und dies auf einem raumplanerisch und ästhetisch sinnvollen Weg.»

 

Die Realisierung von CST soll vollständig mit privatwirtschaftlichen Mitteln erfolgen. Derzeit werden Gespräche mit Investoren geführt. Für die Bewilligungsphase der ersten Teilstrecke von Härkingen-Niederbipp nach Zürich werden CHF 100 Millionen gesucht – die Strecke soll 2030 in Betrieb gehen.

 

Für Jasmin Bigdon ist klar: «Cargo SousTerrain ist eine radikale Innovation – die Branche braucht aber solche Entwicklungen.» Ist es eine Konkurrenz für SBB Cargo? «Nein, denn Cargo SousTerrain wird dann für Marktteilnehmer attraktiv, wenn auch unter Einsatz neuer Techno-logie die bestehende Infrastruktur auf Strasse und Schiene 2035 nicht ausreicht. Dann können wir über Cargo SousTerrain unseren Kunden Alternativ-lö-sungen anbieten. Ausserdem testen wir gemeinsam mit Verladern und der Post über CST auch Technologien für Urban-logistik.» Besonders die Feinverteilung der Pakete bei den CST-Hubs sei interessant: «Für die letzte Meile werden beispiels-weise autonome Fahrzeuge getestet – die sind für uns auch an den gegenwärtig genutzten Ladestellen und Bedienpunkten interessant.»

 

In Zukunft werden sich Pakete also automatisch unterirdisch verschieben oder mit Drohnen durch die Luft fliegen. Der Postversand befindet sich in einem Umbruch – und damit auch sein wichtigster Logistikpartner: SBB Cargo.
