One of the largest I've ever seen--the flower heads, that is. I cannot give here a sense of scale. About the size of a dinner plate (and those have been growing larger over recent decades)!

The Hydrangeas are massive here and there are so many colours that I've not seen before. Sadly it's a bit late in the season for really good photos of them all.
Colors in our front yard soften as winter approaches, but they are no less beautiful in their subtlety.
We saw hydrangeas in England which were a much more brilliant pink than any I've seen in Australia - not that I'm a hydrangea expert.
Some hydrangea trivia: Hydrangeas are moderately toxic if eaten, with all parts of the plant containing cyanide. One form is reportedly sometimes smoked as an intoxicant, despite the danger of illness and/or death.
Colours can be white, blue (acidic soil) or pink (alkaline soil). The soil in Ruislip must be extremely alkaline!
The wind seemed to have other ideas than to allow me to clearly focus on an incipient hydrangea bud.
