Linda, my wife, tells me this is a hydrangea, "Annabelle Lee", which is doing fine this year because of the cool spring.
At least that is the name I remember, from our annual Progress through the yard, re-introducing me to plants. SWMBO is the gardener, I dig as directed.

One of the largest I've ever seen--the flower heads, that is. I cannot give here a sense of scale. About the size of a dinner plate (and those have been growing larger over recent decades)!
Our hydrangea has literally exploded with flowers so my wife and I went out to capture some of their beauty. The mixed lighting was nice to work with and I decided to shoot with extension rings since the wind was minimal.
Hydrangea flowers are produced from early spring to late autumn; they grow in flowerheads (corymbs or panicles) at the ends of the stems. In many species, the flowerheads contain two types of flowers, small fertile flowers in the middle of the flowerhead, and large, sterile bract-like flowers in a ring around the edge of each flowerhead.

A hydrangea is a flower which represents the Japanese early summer.
The back of the flower has a tiny bag. So in them you can put fragrance or jewelry etc...
The material is called Chirimen, a special crepe a little heavier than normal fabric used in making Kimono.
