Pink Hydrangea

by Rainer Maria Rilke

( translation: Walter Arndt )

Who thought such pink could be? Who knew it there

Accumulating in each blushing cluster?

Like gilded things which by and by unluster

They gently grow unred as if from wear.

That one should give such rosiness out free!

Does it stay theirs still, smiling where it went?

Are angels there to take it tenderly like a scent?

Or, it may be, they only let it go

That it might never learn of overblowing.

Beneath this pink there lurked a greenness, though,

Which listened and now fades away, all knowing.

The hydrangeas in my garden have taken over and are at their peak right now. My clematis is also in full bloom.

13 January 2013: Blue hydrangeas on our windowsill.

On the way home from coffee with a friend, my friend saw a bouquet of hydrangea lying on the side of the road and rescued some of the blossoms. When we reached my house, she filled a bowl with water and set them on the sill.

I took this photo after she left. They seemed to fit the beauty of the cloudy, overcast day.

I hope all of you are well.

It can be difficult to find #blueflowers for your garden rainbow 🌈. With the right soil, #hydrangeas could give you that perfect cool blue hue. When grown in acidic soils hydrangeas produce blue flowers, excepting those cultivars that have been bred to be a specific color.

Aluminum sulfate can be added to your #Floridagarden to lower soil pH, although it may take a few #blooming cycles for the color to shift from pink to blue. Remember, a soil test is always an important step before you start working with soil amendments.

Our best plant - guaranteed to produce a wide range of colours,, 2m high. Now is this one flower/ part of a flower or a cluster?

I was impressed how well and tall the Hydrangea grow in the gardens around the Village of Volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii.Though not native to Hawai’i, these colorful plants with 8 inch wide "pom-pom" blooms have earned the Hawaiian name “pōpōhau", which means snow-ball. The Hydrangea on the Big Island are mostly of Hydrangea macrophylla. This very popular variety came to Hawai'i from China and can be a wide range of colors, This plant was growing in the yard of the house where we stayed,

"But how could anyone who's ever seen a summer- big recordings of green and skies lit up electric with splashy sunsets, a riot of flowers and wind that smells like concert- pick the snow?"
