What a stroke of luck! I treated myself to this little bouquet of hydrangeas over the weekend - just in time for this week's A52 photo. Taken for assignment52-162012 - "Yankee Candle Scents," Totally Texture Tuesday, and Beyond Layers - It Begins With You

Posted to Prompt Addicts - The color blue. This was taken a few months ago but it's one of my favorite blue shots.

Hydrangeas are much-loved deciduous hardy shrubs, some of which are climbers. Their striking flower heads come in a range of shapes, from large balls to cones. The most popular and recognisable types are mophead and lacecap, with large, rounded flower heads in shades of white, blue and pink in summer and autumn.

This picture frame can hold a standard 15×10 cm photograph. It consists of four molecules of the Hydrangea Tessellation (designed by Shuzo Fujimoto) spaced apart in such way that a picture can be inserted into the space between them.

My sister-in-law Bogna gave me the idea of making a photo frame when I showed her the standard low-density Hydrangea tess.

The picture is held in place only at its corners by the petals on the inner edge of the frame. The picture’s edges are not covered by the frame at all, so almost all the area of the image is visible. Despite such small tabs, the picture sits inside the frame quite securely.

The size of the hydrangea flowers and the thickness of the frame relative to the size of the area used for the picture can be made arbitrarily large or small. This requires a bit of calculation to lay out the paper well (tip: the picture’s edge lies at 13/16 of the width of the Hydrangea molecule). Precise folding is required, especially if you want to make the frame narrow relative to picture size.

If you fold the frame a little bit too small and the picture bulges when you try to insert it, you can pierce the paper edge which is hidden under the petals on the inner edge of the frame with a knife. The picture’s corners will then be able to go through the slits instead of being pressed against the paper so that a larger picture can fit in.

In all it's glory

The Hydrangeas did very well this year, although in general the heads are smaller probably due to the hot summer.

Now some have been dried and form a lovely dash of colour in the room.

Hydrangea, the name, comes from the Greek words "hydro" or water, and "angeion," or vase = water vase, they prefer a lot of water.

A very ancient plant, found in fossils going back thousands of years.

Flower lovers will know that there is a flower language.

Every sentiment is expressed in one form or another by delicate blooms.

Of course, even the experts disagree on the "true meaning" of many flowers and most have different meanings to different people.

So, while all flowers convey thoughtfulness and love, a gift of flowers for a special someone will always create its own personal meaning, too.

HYDRANGEA - Thank You for Understanding.

Have a wonderful day and thank you for your comments with all my heart, M, (*_*)

I think once in a folders life everybody has to do hydrangeas. So I did the "Hydrangea Ribbon Box" by Dasa Severova and on the left a little hydrangea which I folded from a 15 cm square of paper that I bought at the OD International Origami Convention... The Hydrangea is designed by Shuzo Fujimoto...

I hope you like both :)

PS: Dear Ilse, your photostream inspired me to fold this...
