Poppy used to love to spend our walks underground hunting rabbit. Thankfully she has discovered the fun of chasing a ball instead. Now she joins in with Jess and the rest of us, which is much more sociable.

At Ken Malloy Regional Park, Harbor City. I was wondering why he did not go after the coots. I fired off about 20 shots as he flew with the bunny. The bunny got to be at least 2 lb, with the hawk around 3 to 4 lb, it's amazing if you think about it: carrying more than half your body weight and fly about 100 yards.
Being a wild kid is fun
because I can jump from
tree to tree,
swing from vine,
loving hunting rabbits,
trust in having fun.

It is a chilly Sunday morning! Thank goodness it is not raining!
Rocky and Sherry are out for our regular morning walk. This is
what I saw! Rocky was on his leash hunting rabbits with their
sweaters on! This kinda looks like a naked Christmas tree with
a white glowing ornament! Best viewed in large!
last morning run before we head to the airport in Brisbane. we decided to go to the stanthorp showgrounds instead of the park and wow was this fun!

Making a racket this morning next to my house - massive(!!) bird, guarding our backyard. Not sure if it was hunting rabbits (hiding in backyard), quail (hiding in backyard), or rats (below here all the time trying to get to the compost pile...). The branch he's sitting on is about the size of a child's arm...

Hunting for the elusive gravesite of a man called Gilman, one frigid afternoon spent within the 365 acres of First Calvary Cemetery proved the existence here of a race of burrowing things- mud caked groundlings with glowing red eyes.
Somewhere, nearby I would suspect, is a subterranean warren kept warm by the swarming masses of their hairless and blind progeny. Squirming, these sweaty holes dug into the frozen graveyard force the adults to brave the bright dangers of the surface world to forage.
from wikipedia:
The lagomorphs are the members of the taxonomic order Lagomorpha, of which there are two families, the Leporidae (hares and rabbits), and the Ochotonidae (pikas). The name of the order is derived from the Greek lagos (λαγος, “hare”) and morphē (μορφή, “form”).
Though these mammals can resemble rodents (order Rodentia), and were classified as a superfamily in that order until the early twentieth century, they have since been considered a separate order. For a time it was common to consider the lagomorphs only distant relatives of the rodents, to whom they merely bore a superficial resemblance.
The earliest fossil lagomorphs, such as Eurymylus, come from eastern Asia, and date to the late Paleocene or early Eocene. The leporids first appear in the late Eocene, and rapidly spread throughout the northern hemisphere; they show a trend towards increasingly long hind limbs as the modern leaping gait developed. The pikas appear somewhat later, in the Oligocene of eastern Asia.

Between Downtown and East Durham NC, in a field left by demolition, this mating pair of red foxes frolic. Maybe hunting rabbits or quail or just enjoying the beautiful afternoon, this pair has also become residents of the "new" Durham!

The history of the ferret's domestication is uncertain, like that of most other domestic animals. It is very likely that ferrets have been domesticated for at least 2,500 years. They are still used for hunting rabbits in some parts of the world today, but increasingly they are being kept simply as pets.
Arnie was a wonderful cat, a classic marmalade Tom - independent, determined, incredibly affectionate & yet still quite wild - and pretty thick, but this just added to his charm! He was loved by all who came into contact with him - and that was a lot of people, as he was a great roamer. He arrived with us by accident, or more properly by his determination, as a little ginger ball of kitten fur, appearing through our catflap & becoming the best of friends with Merlin, our own young kitten at the time. He had on him a collar with a name-tag and address, so we returned him to his owners in the adjacent street, but he kept coming back....they didn't seem too worried, and said each time "Oh, no doubt he'll be back with you"...in the end, we just let him stay, though we renamed him Arnie, from the above phrase, as his given name of Tibbles just didn't suit.
He lived over thirteen very full & happy years, gradually turning from a fluffy red ball into a more threadbare old gentleman, still hunting (rabbits were his favourite) and making friends - and extra food stops - all over the place. In the end, at the very end of the summer of 2006, his kidneys gave way & he lost control of his bladder, so sadly his time had arrived. But he will never be forgotten - and not just by us, it seems..
Rest in Peace, Arnie - and thanks for all you gave us. You really were the Best of Cats...

Didn't catch any, but sure had fun chasing. (This is my first try with Adobe LightRoom 2.2, still using Elements 7 for final edits.)

Both Fleck and Floss came from a rescue centre. They were brought over from Ireland where there are large numbers of unwanted collies. Fleck had been well looked after, but Floss had been left to find her own food. Although she has calmed down in the seven years we have had the pleasure of her company, she was a practised hunter and found little problem in hunting rabbits and squirrels.
