Campus Ministry at the University of Saint Mary hosted a Hunger Awareness event on April 9, 2014, wrapping up an entire week of hunger awareness activities.
Members of the Hunger Awareness Team discussed food security and world hunger statistics, and attendees drew slips of paper to determine what and how they would eat.
Two attendees were served a steak dinner at a finely set table and a handful of others ate pizza at smaller tables. The majority, though, ate rice and beans without utensils, while seated on tarps on the floor. This division of foods and eating situations was to represent the percentage of the world population with various levels of food security.
After eating, attendees passed around a microphone and discussed their feelings about the event and the lot that they drew.

One of the great apes we came across while on a gorilla trek in the mountain jungle of Rwanda. They are used to human contact. As long as you don't threaten their dominance, they go about their business. One held my legs as it passed behind me.
City College staff, from all departments, joined Farmshare of America and Strike Out Hunger Food Drive in Alachua County to make a difference this holiday season. Over 800 families received an estimated 20 pounds of perishable and non-perishable food items. Great Job!!! On days 69th and 70th of my 4th Hunger Strike outside the #UNHCR office in #Athens, Greece respectively on Thursday and Friday last week I had once again sought to reach the organization in order to plea for urgent help.
Since I could not enter the building, I tried speaking with the employees of the organization while they were entering or exiting. This is what happened:
One of them disrespectfully pushing me around, enjoying my suffering and laughing at me without ever listening to me.
Another one mockingly saying she would transfer my message to the guard rather than the responsible people at the UNHCR.
And another one saying I would be speaking with the High Commissioner’s representative without specifying exactly when.
However, in the end no one addressed the issue.
